5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner Book 12 May 2013

I teach guitar for a living, and I've seen a lot of crummy beginner books. This is not one of them. I have been using it with beginner players for 12 years now. It is well organized, and it presents concepts in the best order possible: string by string. This book also holds chords off until each string (in the first three frets) has been mastered. This keeps student frustration to a minimum. There are enough exercises for each lesson to hone skills.

My only complaint about the book, would be that the songs are geared toward older players. The young kids don't know the tunes to most of them. No one knows "Song of Joy" or "I Gave My Love a Cherry" and "Banks of the Ohio" these days.

It's a good way to learn guitar through tablature form. So far I am only up to chapter 4, but it's working fine..
