4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for the Late Learners 24 Oct 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I always wanted to learn a little Guitar but I never had the chance. Now at 44 I seemed to think that it is too late so it is with mixed feelings that I have ordered this book. However the book is very well presented and the fact that you start playing the first tunes almost immediately - by Lesson 2 - makes you immediately start looking forward to a little daily practise. The CD enclosed with the book is a great help first for learning how to keep the time and then for those tunes which you have never heard or do not know by the title. I would recommend this book to those who want to have a little break in their daily, otherwise busy life, without the hassle of having to go to lessons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book 6 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is for lack of a better word. Brilliant.
Although I have been playing guitar for a little over two years now I never learned how to read music. Despite being aimed at beginning guitarists I found it a perfect introduction into reading music.
However I did not purchase this from amazon, I purchased it from my local guitar shop. The version I purchased contained a DVD aswell as a CD.(which sadly doesn't appear to be available on amazon) The DVD I found indispensable.
In short:
If you are an already established guitarist looking for an introduction to reading music or you are a beginning (or looking for someone who is beginning) guitarist there is nothing I could more strongly recommend.

This book is highly recommended. In fact I was given a tatty old copy and immediately got into it so much that I ordered a new one. I have just ordered the supplement to Book 1 and also Book 2.
Brilliant. I had never played any instrument before. I could not read music. Music looked like a foreign language to me. I did not consider myself musical.
In four weeks I was reading music and playing along to it!! The lessons are crystal clear and can be constantly re-referred to again and again. The CD's are indispensable. Load the CD onto your I-tunes and sort it out in the order that they appear in the book. You can pick up the tempo of a piece from them and use them as a reference guide.
You will have to work to get the rewards but this book breaks everything down into manageable chunks. You know when it's time to move on to the next section; you feel the progression. I am 46 years young - busy like the rest of us!!!... if I can do it so can you.
