For anyone working with largish networks (>1000 ports) I cannot recommend a better book..... Why?.... Because if you want to learn how to stop fire fighting and automate configurations of your routers and switches then this really is a great book. This book demonstrates how to build tools required to do interesting things such as sniffing @ L2/3 and build apps to create flows on networks.
I summary I would say this is a "Learning Perl" for network engineers!

Exactly what I had hoped for 27 July 2010
By A. KEITH - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have a couple of other network programminng books but was never satisfied with them. I'm not a network geek and needed to get some basics under my belt as I needed to do some data mining on the net for work. This book renovated my confidence in my ability to learn and to implement. I had my solution up and running pretty quickly based on the info I learned from the book. Exactly what I had hoped for. I highly recommend this one.
