Needs better problems 14 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a decent introduction book for beginners to vb. The major problem with this text is that the programming problems at the end of each chapter are not indicative of the chapter material, usually asking for coding not discussed and beyond the scope of that chapter and sometimes the book itself.
I used this book in school and was not pleased with this aspect of it at all.

Response to 1 star review 24 April 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
All I can say is that if everyone in the class had trouble understanding than you must have had a really bad teacher. Not all teachers who teach at the college level are going to be good. I'm currently a MIS/Finance major at Auburn University who is now taking Visual Basic with this textbook, and I absolutely love this book! I'm not claiming to be an expert at VB because I've had no prior programming experience. But I've had no problems learning to program using VB6 with this book. In addition to this book, I also use "Visual Basic Controls in a Nutshell" (O'Reilly) and it has also proved to be very helpful.

Best beginner's book I've seen 1 Nov 2001
By michael - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is more in response to the 1 star review than anything else. I also took the vb class (taught by the author). Those who didn't do well or didn't like the book were the same people that didn't do the work. This book was my first taste of programming and I thought the examples were very well written and well thought out. I recommend this book to every non-programmer I meet. If I could give it 6 stars, I would.
Best programming language book for beginners 8 Feb 2003
By P. LE - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is highly recommended for Visual Basic beginners. I wish William E. Burrows could write good books for other languages. If so, the world would be full of programmers.
