PROFILE OF A KILLER' is not your usual psychological thriller.
Directed by one of the co-writers of the 2005 film 'THE ISLAND', Caspian Tredwell-Owen makes a striking directorial debut.
The film revolves around a killer who the press name the H-61 killer due to the fact the bodies are found down by highway 61. As more bodies are found the police get more baffled and call in former FBI profiler Saule Aitken (Gabriele Angieri),who looks like a cross between Brian Cox and Robert De Niro, to help with the case. His remarkable ability to enter the inner psyche of a killer is one tool that the local police need and could also be Saul's downfall.

While investigating Saul is abducted by our killer from his hotel room and this is where the film takes a turn, as the killer is revealed to be a young man called David. David wants Saul to profile him so he can be noticed as it is revealed by David he has had a normal childhood and there isn't anything else that will get him noticed. Thus begins the cat and mouse story as Saul must get David profiled before he kills anybody else. The actor playing David (Joey Pollari) is remarkable as he can go from one minute child like innocence to cold killing serial killer. With a beginning and ending that is surprising this is a sleeper film that should be more recognised. If your expecting a blood soaked thriller this isn't for you as this is more thought provoking, I for one can find no flaws with this movie.

This is an interesting take on the serial killer genre done on a low budget and starring no one you've likely heard of unless you're a real film buff.
A serial killer is at work in Wisconsin. Bodies are found stripped to the skeleton and wired to a pole then left in the river to be found. A retired FBI profiler is called in by his friend the sheriff and soon discovers that these aren't the killer's target, he is. The killer abducts him to profile him in person whilst taunting him with who he'll kill next.
The film is fairly slow paced and even the denouement isn't the explosive action set piece you'd expect but it keeps you gripped and none of the story line is at all obvious or telegraphed well in advance, can it really be for an American audience?
Its quite long at almost two hours but the cast do a pretty good job and its worth a watch.

Refreshing approach to a serial killer theme; great acting. 30 July 2013

The screenplay is excellent and worthy of a big budget film. This story is not your usual serial killer story. This truly is what the title says it is; It is a profile of a killer. It appears there is no motive for this young man's homicidal actions. He says he comes from a "good home", has never been abused, and his parents reveal that he has excelled academically and in any activity he's attempted at school. He's "just a kid", as Saul, the retired FBI agent observes.

So, why is he doing this? This is the task he sets for Saul after he kidnaps him. Profile the killer and figure out what makes him tick, what makes him murder.

This movie is not a blood fest or a jump out of your seat scary movie, but it is not for the little ones in your family . There are moments that are chilling.

Pollari, the actor, that plays David (the killer) created a character that is multi-layered. There are times where you see the chilling cold-blooded killer, the rage that lies within him. Then there are glimpses of vulnerability, self-doubt, and fear. He reveals the lost part of him that Saul so desperately wants to save.

Gabriele Angieri, plays the retired FBI profiler and looks like he's always been on the big screen. At times, he looks similar to Robert Deniro. His role becomes almost fatherly at times to this disturbed, young man. I hope to see Angieri in more films in the future.

The filming is excellent and looks professional. I often forgot I was watching an independent, low-budget film .

I really enjoyed the moments between Pollari and Angieri. They worked very well together and had that chemistry we always look for between actors. Through all the tenseness of the situations, it seemed that David/The Killer had an affection for Saul/The Profiler and very much wanted his respect. Saul, even though he is disgusted and horrified by the actions of The Killer, is still able to see that he is "just a kid" and appears to be trying to not only save future victims, and himself but also trying to salvage the humanity that he sees is still within this kid.

For this to be an honest review, I have to name two faults that I found could have been improved, but they don't spoil the overall film and I will definitely watch it again so I am glad I bought it: (spoiler alert)

There is a love scene that is luke-warm at best. I've seen old people get more funky in public than these two people in the bedroom scene did. It's very unbelievable that they got it on; poor acting in that scene.

Some of the "special effects" or props are fake looking. The skull in the snow looks like it was a plastic decoration bought at target during Halloween. The same with one of the arm bones that supposedly had flesh taken from it (by being dipped in some sort of acid solution?), looks like it is plastic and too small for a grown adult. Not that I would know from personal experience!

How could a child be so evil and smart ! ! ! 11 Jan. 2014

We're all used to adult serial killers in movies. You see a lot more men in these roles than women. Actually, I don't recall a female in this type of role, but that obviously doesn't mean it hasn't happened. This movie adds an extra twist of suspense and horror that the monster is a child who seemed to have a normal childhood.

Wow 9 Feb. 2014

I was intrigued with the subject matter. It opens up a new or maybe old view that children can be killers without remorse. After all, humans have a measure of good and evil, and it's our choice or should I say "our WILL" to choice which road to take.

Another great sleeper movie 13 May 2015

Another great sleeper movie with no big name actors just solid performances by everyone. I often hear people say you cant find good movies on Netflix or Amazon prime, this is just another example of finding those golden nuggets that are scattered throughout both providers. Profile of a killer has a solid story line and is not far fetched, especially in the world we live in today!

Great viewpoint 30 Nov. 2013

Fascinating viewpoint with a very interesting story. Not your normal run of the mill serial killer. Unexpected beginning and ending. Very graphic.
