There is no point comparing Joe Satriani albums because each one has a slightly different flavour.

If all his albums were the same as Flying in a Blue Dream then people would be grumbling that he should be producing something different.

Personally I think this is another cracking album from one of the worlds finest guitartists!

It's impossible not to like this guy. I've played this man's music to people who would never think of listening to him, or more commonly have never heard of him before, and the reaction has always been.....this is really cool. And once again thats what he's done, created an album that is just cool. Who else could get away with such a wierd (but cool) album name? After absolutely loving Super Colossal, I was curious to see where his musical directoin would take him. And whilst writing an album that is quintessentially Joe Satriani, it still is something fresh, new and exciing to listen to. The great thing again with this album is that all the songs stand out on teir own, and it isn't certain tracks that hold it up, though I must say that out of them all it is "I just wanna Rock" that is going to stand out live.
Overall a great album!!

Quite a complex work with some classic Spanish guitar work translated into electric style, a clear Zappa inspired track or two, some Jazz fusion, the odd bit of retro funk and methinks a touch of Django Reinhardt.

As a result a great many people will hate it because it is not what they immediately recognise as a "Satch" album and it requires listening to properly. The guy has clearly got to a point where he is doing what interests him.

The "I Wanna Rock" track is actually wholly out of place reeks of having been chucked into a much more mature, complex and contemplative work in order to provide something, anything, for many of his fans to hang on to. It is actually the weakest track of the lot but the most commercial.

Overall a very good effort but one that might not have wide appeal.
