From his workshop at McPherson College-home of the only genuine sheet metal fabrication education program in the country-Barr not only demonstrates how the latest tools and products work, but also explains why sheet metal reacts the way it does to a wide variety of processes. He includes clear directions for using power and pneumatic hammers and the English wheel, as well as describing specific skills like hand-forming techniques, buck building, louver punching, edge finishing, and more. Readers will learn how to form door seams and to make fenders, hoods, and other body parts; they'll also learn how to put various finishes on metal through engine turning, metal chasing, and laser processing. This is truly the most detailed enthusiast-focused sheet metal how-to book on the market: whether you're a metal hobbyist or experienced professional, you're sure to find something new in Professional Sheet Metal Fabrication.

A quality read from Ed Barr, unusually for an american he talks a lot of sense and not the usual 'we must power everythin'. Good over views of different welding processes and fabrication jobs.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent book excellent value for money 9 July 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found this book very informative, packed with very usefull information covering allmost all aspects of body work relating to manufacture, restoration, fabrication and rebuilding of classic vehicles or even building one from scratch.
excellent book recommended for novice or professionals alike.
This book gives the reader an insight into repairing, shaping and manufacture of steel/alloy body panels using different tools and machines in order to achieve a satisfactory end result.
Obviously the only way to carry out any practical task is to do so with ones hands and available tools/machines,but this book read/refered to will go a long way to help/guide you in order to carry out the task in the correct manner.
It also gives an insight into the tools required, proceedures in order for the reader to obtain the same for there own projects/work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really nice book 17 July 2014
Format:Paperback
Excellent book. Covers a vast range of metal working in a really friendly open style. I really brought it to find out exactly how to heat shrink metal, but the book has detailed sections on all sorts of other things (stretching/shrinking etc etc), including quite detailed sections on how to weld...gas,mig,tig and spot. At the £12 I paid it was a bargin and far more convincing than all the forum posts I had read on metal working.....The pedal car body that is constructed at the end just shows how complex things can be made by mortals.
