I found this book to be a great list of things that Sharepoint 2010 can do, but a bit short on working examples of how to actually do things. Usually in books like this there are some code examples, step by steps etc, but this seems more like a book of Sharepoint 2010 features than examples. Almost like a white paper from Microsoft I guess. If you are looking for a book that will guide you with real world examples, I'd suggest looking at other titles as they become available, which at the time of writing, admittedly are few and far between.

As the first book released about SharePoint 2010 for many this is going to the primary source of information about the new features. I'll detail some of the pluses and minuses:

Pluses:
1) Good coverage of the new features in Visual Studio 2010 for SharePoint development
2) Lots about the new search capabilities (FAST)
3) Good coverage of Forms server
4) Good coverage of BCS and external lists

Minuses:
1) Doesn't go into any depth about the new claims based authentication. This is probably due the contents being written against the beta, rather than the RTM (where there has been significant changes in this area).
2) Nothing about building Silverlight web parts

There is also some coverage of reporting services integration; workflow, and document management.

If you've been building Sharepoint solutions for MOSS 2007 for a while then this book will serve as a useful guide as to what's new in 2010. However, as others have said it really reads like a Microsoft white paper on 'What's new' rather than a real world guide to building solutions for 2010.

If like me you're new to Sharepoint then I would look elsewhere.
