As you sit there watching your server doing its thing, you kind of have to wonder just what's going on inside the box. Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), Systems Management Server (SMS) and Windows System Update Services are packages that Microsoft has developed to provide you with a view into what's going on inside the box.
The book does not presume that the reader have any particular skill or knowledge, but this whole subject is not something that you'd assign to the complete newbie. You'll need some idea of the structure of the operating system, the basic way it works, and certainly the nomenclature of Microsoft's systems.
This book is intended to be a single source for IT administrators to understand and use these tools in their environment. What I found was that these systems are capable of a lot more things that I understood before reading the book. A couple of them have proved quite useful in solving a couple of problems I had but didn't know where to look. I'd recommend the book to anyone running a Microsoft server.
