Book Description

21 Sep 2000 0748409513 978-0748409518 3
Nowadays software engineers not only have to worry about the technical knowledge needed to do their job, but they are increasingly having to know about the legal, professional and commercial context in which they must work. With the explosion of the Internet and major changes to the field with the introduction of the new Data Protection Act and the legal status of software engineers, it is now essential that they have an appreciation of a wide variety of issues outside the technical.
Equally valuable to both students and practitioners, it brings together the expertise and experience of leading academics in software engineering, law, industrial relations, and health and safety, explaining the central principles and issues in each field and shows how they apply to software engineering.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not informative 1 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
I appreciate getting it for so little money but to be honest, and I'm telling the truth, I gave this book to a little old woman with a fireplace and instructed her to burn it as fuel. I didn't do it because I hate the book, I did it because the book had absolutely no value and it would just weigh a garbage bag down so at least this way it can be used for it's paper value.

I got this book for a pence which was great but the information in the book wasn't useful. It didn't have information about Software Engineering, instead it had information about how different aspects of a company could be set up with a little bit of tailoring so it could justify the title. If you're interested in Software Engineering then this book isn't for you. If you're interested in opinion about how a company could be set up (I believe the author was basing things on theory instead of experience) then this book still isn't for you. If you like rhetoric, are young and the concept of a business or company is new to you then this book would be an interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I recommend it to software engineers 25 Jun 2003
Format:Paperback
This book is recommended as primary text for the module Professional Issues by the British Computer Society. That is the reason why I bought the book. It deals so well with the professionalism in software engineering that you would not have to get another book. Intellectual property rights are very well dealt with, going to the very details of IPR: Data Protection Act 1998 and 1984, with a comparison of the two DPA acts. Good book that deals very well with the topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read 23 Mar 2010
By Bella
Format:Paperback
Not a book one would perhaps choose as a bedtime read, however, as a requirement for the Business Analysts ISEB Organisational Context Course it is easy to read and digest.
