Product Description

Review

Peter Cartwright has expertly summarised the current evidence behind probiotic success. This is an extremely useful, user-friendly, accurate and informative book. --Glenn Gibson, Professor of Microbiology, University of Reading.

There exists a clear need to de-mystify the science of probiotics, and provide the public with a straightforward guide to what probiotics are and what to use them for. This book provides this resource... easy to read, and easy to understand. --Prof Simon Cutting, School of Biological Sciences, Royal Holloway College, London.

I bought this book as I am a healthcare professional and I'm studying this subject at university. However, I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about probiotics (and prebiotics as there is a chapter covering this also). It is well written, scientific terms are explained, and it is easy to understand for anyone interested in the subject. Plus, the chapters are well referenced with original research papers, making it really useful for someone who wants to study the subject in more detail.

It especially highlights why babies and children need to avoid antibiotics, if possible, especially when the infection may be viral and the antibiotic won't work anyway. It will make you very hesitant about taking antibiotics unnecessarily, as it details lots of reasons why you need to care for the "friendly bacteria" that live in your gut.

I have enjoyed this book it is easy to read and easy to understand, and has been very helpful in learning about probiotics and a healthy digestive system. I have been making my own Fermented cabbage, Kifer, yogurt etc., this book has helped me with a better knowledge and understanding the import job probiotics have towards keeping a healthy body.
