This is a neat server but like them all you will need to spend a bit more money to make it fly.
The 1gb RAM wont let you do alot very fast but 4gb is better - 8 is brilliant (I used Kingston 4gb DDR3)
Installing Windows Home Server V1 creates a 20gb system drive leaving 230ish for data.
To install anything but FreeNAS you will want a SATA DVD drive and you will also want a converter to convert the molex connector that is available to power the DVD.
Drivers are also a pain to find but a start (which you cant get on without is for the NIC - I used HP driver cp013021 and is does fine. Im yet to find a graphics driver and another driver but these dont stop you working.
The case is easy to dismantle, the fitting screws for a DVD and also the 12 screws youll need for the "up to" 3 additional drives.
The single drive is a Midline 250gb (£65.00 ish) and of course you will need a second if you want a mirror
Shop around as right now you can buy the base unit for for £222 (Crescent electronics) and then get 100 rebate - I guess its going to be discontinued but add the bits and for about 300 you get a good little server.
I am going to put Server 2008 Foundation on it next to see if thats any good - and right now thats got a 100 cashvabk (until end of June 2011
If you install Windows Home Server v1 you are advised not to use the server like a pc but remote connect trough another pc
