Clear and consise,

This review is from: Pro NetBeans IDE 6: Rich Client Platform Edition (Expert's Voice in Java) (Paperback)
This book provides a thorough and clear walkthrough of the various functionality found in NetBeans IDE. The only thing missing from this book is guidance on when (and for whom) the various tools are useful, and when they're just overkill...

The best book available for NetBeans6,
By John L. Grotteland - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Pro NetBeans IDE 6: Rich Client Platform Edition (Expert's Voice in Java) (Paperback)
This is the 'help' menu that Sun should have provided. The author offers a broad view of what NetBeans has to offer from basic installation, to detailed java application examples, to de-bugging and version control; much more than I anticipated. Being more of an 'example type' person, I'd like to have seen more examples, but to keep the book content balanced I assume the author had to draw the line somewhere. I've tried finding other 'current' (NetBeans version 6 or higher) and there's nothing out there that compares to this book. Well worth an Amazon purchase.

A very shallow book,
By Gail Leshinsky - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Pro NetBeans IDE 6: Rich Client Platform Edition (Expert's Voice in Java) (Paperback)
I've bought this book hoping that it'll help me use the "platform", i.e. a set of reusable components that Netbeans itself is built with, to write my own app.
Instead the book is basically a shrunk paper based version of the Netbean's own help. Absolutely worthless. Definitely returning it. 4 of 12 people found the following review helpful:

The book was very helpful in setting up Netbeans and learning how to use the various features.
