Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Key to PES 2008 is a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision. Unique to the Konami game, Teamvision is a sophisticated AI programming that learns and adapts according to an individual’s style of play. As such, it will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements and previous attacking or defensive errors, ensuring games are more in line with the tactical but flowing nature of the real thing.

With the Pro Evolution Soccer series renowned for its fluid, realistic gameplay, the new game builds on the implementation of Teamvision with additional key advances. As with previous releases since its inception in 1996, the ball is again treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space.

Working in conjunction with the Teamvision system, every aspect of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’s on-field play has been reworked and fine-tuned to create the balanced and strategic play of a high stakes match. Set-pieces have been improved, with full control given over the number of players and the position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available to make use of specific talents within the team.

3.0 out of 5 stars PRO EVO 2008 on PES3---- SO DISAPPOINTING, 26 Oct 2007
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (PS3) (Video Game)
If i can start the review by saying how much I've enjoyed the entire Pro Evo series and that it is definitely the best football series on any platform ever.
So with much anticipation I have awaited PRO EVO 2008. The game itself has improved in terms of realism. For example, Keepers dont save shots they shouldnt, and save the ones they generally should. Making them a little more consistent.

The passing and ball control is even more crisp and the tackling has also been enhanced. It's now not so easy to pick the ball up with a top player (like Adriano in PES6) and sprint the length of the pitch right through the midddle of the opposition.
So in these respects the game has improved...

But - and it is a big BUT there are some major niggles.
The framerate is poor on the PS3. On replays and film shots the jerky animation is exceedingly disappointing. If you played the old PES on Wide camera angle- then be prepared to change. This angle suffers from the worst kind of "lag" during game play. It makes it so hard to play and follow the game. I describe it as lag (but it isnt strictly) because its similar to when you played someone online in the old version who had a slow internet connection.

Players dont transition smooth on the screen when there's lots of action. The ball skips around and this is all made worse during the replay.
You can make this better by using a HD TV, and install the game onto the console itself. I even found using Normal Long as a different camera angle helped. But is this what you should have to do after paying £40 for a "next gen" game? It certainly isnt...
To add to matters, less important things are still there. Apalling menu music -why do Konami bother? Quite simply turn it off as soon as you load up the game for the first time. The menu layout is still the same and some of the editing has been restricted. The Master league is exactly the same, despite assurances it would be revamped. WHY?

From a game that promised so much it has left me wondering whether for the first time in 7 years I should return to the FIFA side. A tough one and something i would never have imagined thinking. Other users dont experience the same level of problems as others. However the issues are still there to be seen. Its just a case of deciding wether you (given the superb standard of previous PES releases) can overlook the glaring faults that this has to offer on the PS3.
I for one cant!

2.0 out of 5 stars PRO EVO 2008 DISAPPOINTMENT :(, 3 Jan 2008
By G Brown (Scotland, UK) - See all my reviews
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (PS3) (Video Game)
What a Stinker!! Having owned every PES and ISS I was keen to try PES 2008 on my PS3. I was however totally disappointed - just take the ball on a mazy with a good striker e.g. Henry, and more often than not he will get through on goal. Even when tackled with the x button they just seem to shrug off the defender. It's also too easy to score from all ranges and angles thus discouraging good passing moves and gives poorer players a better chance shooting on target with every opportunity - this is not what PES is about (FIFA MAYBE)!! I want flowing football and harder scoring. This was pummelled into insignificance when I went online. The online gaming is the most disappointing thing since putting a face to Amy Winehouse's voice - disappearing balls; jerky graphics; on field pinball; etc. I gave it several chances but will never play this PES version online again as it is that bad. The worst thing was losing the ball when making a great tackle only for it to appear at the strikers' feet in front of goal. I would not recommend this game for anyone to buy as the previous version is just about as good. Might even sell mine on and that hurts me to say that. Konami own goal. Still not bad enough to make me go down the FIFA line though. Boo!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Own goal!, 29 Oct 2007
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (PS3) (Video Game)
The release of this game has clearly been rushed. There are severe problems with 'jerkiness' - so much so that at first, I thought my PS3 had broken! Unless a fix is bought out for this issue fast, Fifa is going to wipe the floor with this game in terms of sales.

My advice is to avoid at all costs. I actually sent the game back as I feel it is unplayable in it's current state and is just not acceptable as a 'next gen' game. I urge others to do the same, as the developers are taking the mickey out of the hard working public by fleecing them for a game that doesn't even work as it should.

It's sad because, these issues aside, I can see it would have been a very good game. Lets hope they fix it fast!
