5.0 out of 5 stars A Proper Hard Man, 27 Dec 2003
By
This is a superbly written book offering the reader a chance to enter into the life of "Cornish" Bob Fitzsimmons. I have enjoyed reading the wrestling biographies that are such good sellers, but not one of those guys can ever compete with the amazing life of Bob Fitzsimmons. He fought anyone and nearly anything, ( the little skirmish with a lion) and met, threatened and was nearly shot by legendary figures as Wyatt Earp and Black Bat Masterson.
He led a hard living, hard fighting life and backed down from nothing. The first Englishman to be crowned world heavyweight champion and champion at three different weight divisions, he took on all-comers, bare knuckled, in bouts that lasted hours. If you want a cracking read of a true life hard man then get this book.

this book is so badly written and produced,it disgraces Fitz'legend. Anyone readin this will all ready know the history of boxing from James Figg onwards, they won't need a re-cap.The author over indulges in descriptive prose, but the actual fight details, and stories of the man himself are practically nil.Coupled with the fact his publishers printing machines appear to have no apostrophes, quotation marks or commas,it's a tough book to get through without throwing away in desapir.Save your money, there's better book's on Fitz out there.
