Our exclusive Vietnamese coffee is selected from the finest beans available from Buon Ma Thuot, and then roasted an blended with a little authentic "weasel" coffee. I actually bought this product regardless of it being civet coffee or not - it still tastes like good, authentic Vietnamese coffee and to me, that's all that matters. I bought back several bags of different grades from Vietnam, and tasted a lot of varieties from different regions in my month there.

In Vietnam, from coffee shops, you pay for different grades of coffee from different regions - the civet coffee being the most expensive. I took back some Moka beans, which verged on expensive, and some DaLat beans, which were about average. The Moka was notably more pleasant, and less bitter. I was curious to see if this coffee advertised would taste suspiciously like the DaLat beans but they sat somewhere between, if not on a par with the decent Moka beans.

All in all, I'd buy again 100%, as I cannot think of where else you can get better tasting coffee for the money in the UK. It's a shame that you can only get the 8 pound beans if you buy something else from Amazon, or whatever the deal is, sadly 10 pounds a bag is too expensive to justify every day use for a student!

Regardless, these beans are about 5 times better than the best varieties found in Whittards for even more money. And because of that it gets 5 stars, I just need to save up to go back to that wonderful country!

The pack is soft to the touch so it's not vacuum packed and there is no sell-by nor use-by date on the pack. That in itself is not very good.

I brewed it in a No.7 4-part Vietnamese Phin filter with 1 rounded tablespoon of coffee lightly tamped and 1 tablespoon of Longevity condensed milk in the cup.

The finished coffee was slightly darker in the cup than the Buon Ma Thuot coffee I'm used to. The description says there is a small amount of authentic Weasel coffee in it by which they mean Kopi Luwak or as it has come to be known "Civet coffee". This is not apparent in the taste which is about the same as the Vietnamese coffee I usually use which is £2.80p cheaper. There is however a more sour aftertaste than I'm used to. This may be due to the coffee grind being too fine for a Phin filter which could have resulted in the coffee being over-brewed.

The Vietnamese have a special way of slowly roasting Robusta coffee beans in butter with a small amount of cocoa and sugar. This creates a hard shell on the beans and during roasting protects the beans which reduces the sour Robusta taste. Of course the cocoa and sugar stays in the coffee when it is ground and results in Mocha rather than straight coffee. This coffee is no exception to that and the taste is that of Mocha.

Overall, this coffee doesn't deserve more than one star because it is a poor example of Vietnamese coffee! There is a lot better authentic Vietnamese coffee to be had. Right now it's in the bin!

Items are absolutely as described and were promptly delivered. Served with condensed milk, these coffees have brought a taste of Vietnam to Scotland.

Just like you get in Vietnam. If you like coffee and have never tasted Vietnamese coffee I would urge you to give this a go. It's like nothing you've ever tasted before. It has a sweet vanilla like flavour and is my personal favourite which I keep for special occasions. The only complaint is the price. It's not cheap but it's not cheap in Vietnam either.
