Book Description

A hard-hitting thriller set in the London office of the world's most exclusive detective agency

Product Description

SOMETIMES WHEN THE NIGHTMARE ENDS – THE TERROR IS ONLY JUST BEGINNING For Hannah Shapiro, a beautiful young American student, this particular nightmare began eight years ago in Los Angeles, when Jack Morgan, owner of Private – the world’s most exclusive detective agency – saved her from a horrific death. She has fled her country, but can’t flee her past. The terror has followed her to London, and now it is down to former Royal Military Police Sergeant Dan Carter, head of Private London, to save her all over again. In central London, young women are being abducted off the street. When the bodies are found, some days later, they have been mutilated in a particularly mysterious way. Dan Carter’s ex-wife, DI Kirsty Webb, is involved in the investigation and it looks likely that the two cases are gruesomely linked.Dan Carter draws on the whole resources of Private International in a desperate race against the odds. But the clock is ticking… Private may be the largest and most technologically advanced detection agency in the world, but the only thing they don’t have is the one thing they need – time.James Patterson’s white-knuckle rollercoaster has just reached London. Buckle up, it’s one hell of a ride!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read 16 Jun 2011
Format:Hardcover
A typical James Patterson thriller, fast-paced, action-filled adventure filled with handsome heroes and gorgeous women. Don't get me wrong, that's not a complaint, in fact I read the book in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed every paragraph, but don't expect a literary masterpiece because you're not going to get one.

If you want to take your brain off the hook for a few hours and visit a world full of beautiful, rich people and nasty villians then this is the book for you.

The story is not overly complicated, but JP's style of writing (short chapters, some no more than 1 page) makes it easy reading and the plot is good enough for the ending not to be too obvious.

I suppose if I had one minor criticism it would be that though the book is set in London, the English characters still speak like Americans i.e. elevator and not lift, but at least JP has done his homework unlike one American author who, much to my annoyance, referred to a £100 note!

Apart from that negligible complaint, JP, as always, is a safe bet and I eagerly wait for his next book to be published.

3.0 out of 5 stars Coming back to form 25 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Private series is relatively new. It follows the same formula as all James Patterson books, short chapters, easy prose and fast moving action. With each series you are dependent upon the co-author and Mark Pearson seems one of the better ones.

The basic storyline is nothing new: rich girl gets killed, several years later daughter is in danger, (or is she?) exclusive detective agency led by rugged, attractive former war hero is engaged to sort it out? But the plot moves swiftly and there are enough plot twists - personal connections, unsure allegiances, regular murders or war stories - to keep the mind engaged.

The main characters are not especially deeply sketched and all are unfeasibly attractive and indestructable but it doesn't really matter. When you read a James Patterson novel you are not going to confuse it with reality

So for a pleasant book you can read in a couple of sessions on the train, or an afternoon on the beach, this is a good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars gripping 9 Mar 2012

I could tell from the beggining that this was going to be a good read, and it was. Brilliant story line.Action all the way through,. Although always a bit dubious when James Patterson has a co-writer i was pleasantly suprised by their technique. Look forward to more similar reads.

4.0 out of 5 stars KIDNAPPED 2 Mar 2013
By Red Rock Bookworm TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
We live in an age where exclusivity is the order of the day and usually separates the haves from the have nots. Those with a lot of disposable cash will pay whatever it takes to procure the best available in any category. When it comes to detective agencies, the best that money can buy is PRIVATE, a PI agency with offices on both sides of the pond each possessing an almost unbelievable technical capability. Just ask authors James Patterson and Mark Pearson, the two men who create just the right atmosphere for this story of kidnapping, double-crosses and gruesome murder and who also realize that suspense thrillers are part of a mental landscape created by the reader and therefore do not need to be grounded in reality.

Former Royal Military Police Sergeant Dan Carter is their protagonist, a guardian angel of sorts to Hannah Shapiro, a kidnapping victim with a filthy rich daddy. Also involved are Carter's god-daughter Chloe, his ex-wife Detective Inspector Kirsty Webb and a few mutilated bodies that keep popping up all over town.

This dual narrative is written in short two to five page chapters. The style is simple and gets to the point without excessive verbiage and the sharp rat-a-tat delivery keeps the reader engaged. This is the perfect choice for suspense aficionados who enjoy Patterson's books and want a very quick and but satisfying read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting all action thriller 4 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been a fan of James Patterson for many many years and this lives up to all his previous high standards of thriller novel writing.

Particularly pertinent with all the references to the 2012 Olympics and very up to date and accurate. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
