Product Description

In the horrors of the trenches of the Western Front, the daily miseries of the British soldier are compounded by the added dangers of enemy snipers. When least expected, the shrill whistle of the fatal bullet heralds one more death amongst the thousands that have already fallen.

Into this war of nerves, a humble ex-poacher plies his deadly trade; ridding the front lines of these hidden, silent killers. Enter into the world of “The Rat Man”, the very personal war of Private Gimble.

4.0 out of 5 stars For WW1/2 buffs 11 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Very enjoyable short story, which once started was difficult not to finish in one reading. It shows a person who is of a humble upbringing with a different educational background can be more intelligient, in the right circumstances than those of a more priviliged education.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good short story 26 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an enjoyable mini read which encapsulates great personality and vision into a short space. Everyone has their strengths, Obadiah has his. An unassuming 'hero' .

5.0 out of 5 stars SHORT BUT EXCELLENT 28 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Thoroughly recommend even though it is a VERY short book. Having said that I've bought books on WW! that go on and on for ever which are definitely not as good as this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different WW1 story. 20 Mar 2013
By Denis
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I like reading about experiences of the First World War and the synopsis seemed different. I down-loaded the book and enjoyed the story, but it was over too quickly. I would like to read more adventured of Private Gimble. Intriguing ending.

For the price you pay it's very diss appointed! Very short story, if it was a story more of a passage....

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read
Well written, excellent read, I thoroughly enjoyed the story , about a sniper in the First World War. It was he good use of people, pity it didn't normally happen in the army.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete rip off
77p could be much better spent elsewhere, this is nothing other than a very poor, very far fetched ( mercifully) short story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Private Gimble
Well to start with I have not read the book yet, but from my understanding of the subject, and being a guide @ a WW1 Remembrance Centre I can be sure it will be enlighten?

2.0 out of 5 stars Private Gimble
Too short, it's more a chapter than a book. Good descriptions and character but no emphasis on the trenches or trench life

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Short Story
This is one of the most poignant short stories I have read, to the point with details that suggest the dreadful conditions and yet a compelling read with an interesting ending,
