5.0 out of 5 stars Prisoner - Australia Drama At Its Best!!!, 15 Nov 2008
By Mr. J. W. Murphy "jonny boy" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Excellent DVD of the most famous Australian jail "Wentworth" comes the women of "H Block" ruled by its most famous "top dog" - Bea Smith played by the talented Val Lehman. From the eccentric "Lizzie Josephine Birdsworth" to Judy Brient (Driscoll House's Founder), Karen Travers (a convicted murderer) Lynn Warner (who claims to be innocent) to Officer Vera Bennett played by the comical yet tough Fiona Spence. Others include Meg Morris, Erica Davidson (The renound jail governor) and Franky Doyle who challenges Bea Smith to the top dog position with little effect!!! This is a must for all fans of the show - Let Prisoner Cell Block H once again show the drama it has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Prisoner Cell Block H available in the UK, 16 Nov 2008
Well finally after years of waiting the first 32 episodes of the cult series Prisoner Cell Block H arrives, and i have to say it's still as good as ever, having seen the Australian release of cell block i firstly prefered the main menu, the extra's are simple but good, a moving rather than static text on several of the main characters, as their cell block characters followed by the actors bio.

A small feature where you can see a short clip of sorting out Lynne Warner and the galleria which i felt was a bit dissapointing, it just seemed to be stills taken from scenes with a few publicity ones thrown in also.

Its great to see some familiar faces in the early series Myra Desmond & Willy Beecham as screws (prison officers for the uninitiated)Psycho Doctor Neil as a policeman, Auntie May as a friend of Bea's and a very naked Queenie Marshall.

All in all though a very good buy plus you get double the amount that the Australian release had (16 to the uk's 32 episodes)so wont take long to release the whole collection, and i personally cannot wait until Volume 2 is released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long time due for the best Prison Drama out there., 17 Nov 2008
By Andy (Essex) - See all my reviews
I'm glad its come out in the UK on DVD , i use to love this show as a child , use to drive me nuts though with the late times they use to put it on at ...has having school the next day it was sometimes was a hassle trying to get my parents to allow me to watch it lol

I brought this DVD because i didn't see some of the episodes due it being on so late and also because of them keeping changing the schedule for football etc.

Good to see some off the old characters again , i don't often buy DVDs but this program was so good and i remember it fondly that i just had too.

This beats the pants of Badgirls & all Prison based drama out there today....wish they would bring out Prisoner again with some of the old characters if it was possible , but i guess its been way to long now.. great shame really.

Only just found out that Sheila Florance who played Lizza Birdsworth died , great shame seeing as she was one of my all time Favorites :(

Does anyone know when Vol.2 is due?
