Review

"ideal for budding designers and mathematically-minded yachtsmen."
--Yachting Monthly (September 2007)

Product Description

Principles of Yacht Design has now established itself as the standard book on the subject for practising designers, naval architecture students, discerning boat owners and the boatbuilding industry as a whole. Now revised and expanded for the third edition it examines every aspect of the process of yacht and powerboat design. The authors have used a newly designed 40 foot performance cruiser to demonstrate the practical application of yacht design theory. Beginning with the yacht's specifications, the authors examine vital topics and conclude with practical matters such as the layout of the cockpit, deck and cabin, and provide a complete weight calculation for the boat. 'This book is deeply fascinating ...a must.' Classic Boat 'A sound and up to date manual of yacht design ...a classic in its field.' Practical Boat Owner 'A definitive work on yacht design.' This book serves as very good introductionary text for yacht design where all topics are touched. Authors also gives helpfull suggestions where to find more information. Case study of YD-40 is well used to give real life meaning for all formulas that are presented. All formulas are simple and do only require junior highschool mathematics (if you know how to take square root or cubic root that's enough). Must for all who are interested of principles of yacht design.

Format:Hardcover
This is the only book of its kind to be based on a great Naval Architecture foundation. It is sufficiently broad-based to cover all aspects of yachts, both motor and sails, and also sufficiently in-depth as a reference for the readers more demanding in the theorectical aspects. The authors are authorities in this subject and this book further confirms their position.

A work of genuis 3 Aug 2006
Format:Hardcover
This is the first book that I have come across to stop me reaching for my old copy of Skene/Kinney when I have a problem. It is the most significant work on practical yacht design in my 40-odd years experience - comprehensive, well written always shrewd and insightful. As I said, a work of genius - and, like most works of true genius, accessible to anyone who actually wants to understand the problems involved.
