Product Description

Review

"A silver anniversary is an important milestone worth celebrating, and this landmark text remains crucial and invigorating after more than a quarter-century. The fourth edition reflects many exciting, continuing advances in knowledge about sex and intimate relationships. It recognizes the need to assess and treat individuals and couples on both the psychological and physical levels, offering a balanced, integrative, and accessible understanding of each problem area discussed. This book is certainly a key text for trainee sex therapists, medical and nursing students, and practicing clinicians, and I intend to recommend it across a multidisciplinary training class of postgraduates." - Kevan R. Wylie, MD, Editor-in-Chief, 'Sexual and Relationship Therapy'; Porterbrook Clinic and Sheffield Hallam University, UK

"With this fourth edition, Leiblum demonstrates once again why she is this generation's leader in the education and training of sex therapists. This outstanding, well-regarded text should be on the shelf of every practicing sex therapist and trainee. The chapters are well written, well organized, interesting, and timely. The liberal use of case study material enriches each chapter by illustrating the practical uses of the concepts described. As with previous editions, this book will be required reading in my graduate-level sex therapy courses." - Daniel N. Watter, EdD, private practice, Parsippany, New Jersey, USA; Adjunct Professor of Psychology, Seton Hall University and Farleigh Dickinson University, USA

Sex Therapy text 21 Jan 2008
By Y. Makidon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am a Ph.D. student in a marriage and family therapy program. This book was assigned by the professor of my sex therapy class. It is clinical and in some aspects 'over my head' with medical information. But it is well written and provides excellent information on various sexual related disorders and dysfunctions. The information will serve me well in my future work with clients.

excellent survey of sex therapy 1 Jun 2007
By Rachel Garrison - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book provides excellent coverage of a variety of topics in sex therapy. In addition to addressing the mechanics of the disorder, the authors also give a good balance between pharmacological, medical, and psychotherapy interventions. Especially useful is the emphasis on couples counseling and the distinctions regarding when it would and wouldn't be appropriate. It usually is as couples therapy almost always has a component of sex therapy, and sex therapy has a component of couple therapy. The case studies make the material more accessible and make the material more enjoyable and illuminate the disorder in the context it occurs - within a person and a relationship.

The only limitation is beyond the control of the authors. The lack of empirical validation and controlled studies for many of the interventions. Sex therapy is not paid enough attention in this country, so many of the techniques and interventions described are from limited cases or from other countries - as are the authors.

Intersting text 2 Feb 2009
By Delphine M. Herman - Published on Amazon.com

This was a required text for a masters course in Human Sexuality. It is a great resource for many of the discussions and assignments that were required. I will be keeping this book as a resource.
