Product Description

Product Description

This groundbreaking text is the only comprehensive, thoroughly researched, carefully referenced, up-to-date text on the practice of herbal medicine, written by herbalists who have active experience in clinical practice, education, manufacturing and research. This book provides a detailed, practical and where possible research based rationale for the use of herbal treatments in a wide variety of clinical conditions and problems. Through the filter of current scientific literature, the authors have reappraised traditional use of herbal remedies and present realistic guidelines for modern practice. As a result "Principles and Practice of Phytotherapy" is a uniquely authoritative guide to applying herbal medicines as serious options for the treatment of some of the most troublesome conditions in the modern clinic. It will be greatly welcomed by those already using these remedies but will also be valued by any medical or healthcare practitioner who has thought about using plant remedies but was looking for a coherent approach that made modern sense.

Format:Hardcover
Easy to use reference book with explanations of the chemistry of herbs (e.g. flavanoids, mucilages). Also descriptions of the hebal groups (e.g. hepatics, antitussives) and a detailed, materia medica with descrition of herb, uses, traditional uses, indications, contra-indications and latest research. Minor gripes: the number of herbs covered is limited, though he does cover the most commonly used and the author is perhaps too cautious in his recommendations. Much more detailed than books aimed at the lay person ~ a very useful study reference!

Brilliant!!!!! 18 Aug 2011
Format:Hardcover
Having just completed the A. Vogel course in Phytotherapy,
I wanted to learn more.

I came across this book on an internet search, and decided to purchase it
It is absolutly brilliant.
Its not just another this herbal medicine for this or that herbal medicine for that...

It gives the history, and principals on how herbal medicines work, in plain english.
even better is it gives a monograph of many herbal medicines, including contrindications, but with chemical diagrams
where necessary.

using the following headings:
=============================
Synonyms,
what is it?,
effects,
traditional view,
summary actions,
can be used for,
may also be used for,
preperations,
dosage,
duration of use,
summary assessment of safety,
technical data,
current regulatory status in selected countries
===============================================

A thorough explanation, in plain english
I have paid more for books with less detail than this, and in fact it contains
all the information of three other books I had purchased.

If I want to check out any given herbal medicine, this is the one stop book!!!
All healthfood stores should have a copy of this.
