Product Description

Product Description

The real threat to information system security comes from people, not computers. That′s why students need to understand both the technical implementation of security controls, as well as the softer human behavioral and managerial factors that contribute to the theft and sabotage proprietary data.

Addressing both the technical and human side of IS security, Dhillon′s Princliples of Information Systems Security: Texts and Cases equips managers (and those training to be managers) with an understanding of a broad range issues related to information system security management, and specific tools and techniques to support this managerial orientation. Coverage goes well beyond the technical aspects of information system security to address formal controls (the rules and procedures that need to be established for bringing about success of technical controls), as well as informal controls that deal with the normative structures that exist within organizations.

I bought it for a MSc program, first half is impossible to tolerate, so badly written; the last chapters are better. But there are so many good books; chose another one.
Cheers

Really Bad 5 May 2010
By Security Professional - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I did not buy this book because I wanted to; I had to for a graduate course. This is absolutely one of the worse texts I have ever read. Content is redundant, out of date, and not at all relevant for today's security professional. Each chapter begins with a factious case study that is carried on the entire book. It's pure filler. Also the diagrams are childish (Visio) and too much time is spent on minor topics. Avoid at all costs.
A good suppliment to an information security course 10 April 2011
By silverwren - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book was purchased as a recommended guide for an IS security management course. The author made this rather dull subject a bit more interesting.

The book covers main topics of IS management with some technical details which I could refer to as an IT professional. The book is writtent in language that differs from academic writing and is some parts is not very clear.

AVOID 18 May 2010

The comments below hit the nail on the head. Outdated and poorly written. Had to buy it for the course because the professor assigned his own book. If it's not required, avoid at all costs!
