5.0 out of 5 stars Great textbook for learning on your own 31 Oct 2013
By Chantal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is a newer edition of the textbook I used in college while majoring in Civil Engineering, which I sold after finishing the course. Now that I'm studying for the PE exam, I purchased it again. The explanations are short and easy to understand on your own. I can't imagine a better textbook if you're learning from a book and without an instructor. The answers are provided for all the odd problems and there are many example problems, another great help. I feel very confident in the area of Geotechnical Engineering now and have a good working knowledge of what I need to know.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 26 May 2013
By Samuel - Published on Amazon.com

I started using this book for my Principles of Geotechnical Engineering course at the University of Nevada, Reno in the fall 2010 semester. It worked out really nicely as a companion.

Now I used the Principles of Foundation Engineering book by Das, along with this one when I took my retaining structures course in the spring 2012 semester. I did use another Geosynthetics book by Koerner in my geosynthetics class in the spring 2011 semester in addition to this one.

Regardless, I always turned back to this one if I needed to remember fundamental principles, and I take this book into the civil PE exam with me for reference in case I need it.

This book was like new. I've been using this book as a compliment for the FE manual and the exam.
4.0 out of 5 stars Older version was better 11 Mar 2013
By Gus - Published on Amazon.com

What I liked about this book, was that this book was our class textbook. However, our teacher had an older version, it was more complete because it covered deep foundations, seems like I'm going to have to buy another book for that specific purpose.

Still great book for soil mechanics and an introduction to geothecnical engineering.
