4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text for Intermediate Econometrics 1 Feb 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Not for beginners, principles of econometrics is a well formed book detailing all the process needed for econometrics at an intermediate level. From an excellent introduction and brief overview of data collection and finding basic statistics through creating models for multiple regression and testing these thoroughly - this book has all you need. It is well laid out, with key formula and statistical tables in the covers and plenty of examples throughout. Coloured boxes highlight the key points and questions are included for checking your knowledge. An excellent text for intermediate econometrics.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as alternatives 26 May 2011
By Jamie
This book is alright but for beginners I would definitely recommend either Introductory Econometrics by Jeffrey Wooldridge or Basic Econometrics by Damodar N Gujarati over this. The explanations and layouts of both are simpler and easier to understand. Also, and this is irritating, the index is very poor. It is often difficult and frustrating trying to find what you are looking for.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit let down 8 Oct 2011
By econ101
Disappointing service. I paid for first class delivery and it took a week to arrive, which meant going a whole week being unable to start my econometrics reading for my class. When it did arrive it had scratches on the cover and looked quite 'weathered'. Considering previously fantastic service from Amazon I am, to say the least, rather disappointed.

The book itself seems like its contextually sound, and is highly rated by my lecturer, but in terms of layout the book feels rather dated. The writing is quite small and, for a topic that relies heavily on rigorous graphical analysis, seems to be lacking visual examples.

Also this turned out to be the third edition (which wasn't made particularly obvious when I ordered it) where I would have prefered to have gone for the more recent 4th edition. Similarly I would have appreciated the option of a paperback version (which seems non-existant) as, being a student, hardcovers are a luxury I can't afford.

If it wasn't on my reading list I would probably return this in exchange for one of its cheaper, more modern and visual competitors such as Woolbridge's 'Inroductory Econometrics'

The book arrived sooner than I was expecting which was a major bonus as my studies had already begun. It is in excellent condition as promised and is a useful study guide for anybody new to econometrics/empirical economics.
