Product Description

Product Description

For undergraduate/graduate courses in Behavior Modification, Behavior Therapy, and Behavior Management.

This text offers a solid introduction to the principles of behavior using a clear, interesting, entertaining style with many case studies and everyday examples while maintaining a high level of intellectual rigor and addressing fundamental concepts.

Since writing the first edition of Principles of Behavior the authors have sought to address a unique need of the students in their behavior modification classes: levels of student ability, experience, and exposure to the topics addressed in these courses often varied greatly. From freshman undergradute courses straight through graduate level research, there was a need for a text that was flexible yet rigorous enough to appeal to both the novice and advanced student. Here, the authors have been able to do just that. Princibles of Behavior offers a solid introduction to the principles of behavior using a clear, interesting, entertaining style with many case studies and everyday examples while maintaining a high level of intellectual rigor and addressing fundamental concepts.

Malott and company do it again 11 Dec 2003
By Bobby Newman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The (Elementary) Principles of Behavior series continues. This is the text I now use when I teach college-level courses in applied behavior analysis, and students are uniform in their praise for the book's engaging style and easily understood examples. The information is solid and does not get lost in jargon (while simultaneously not watering down information). The humor leaps out at you, sometimes unexpectedly and sometimes with the subtlety of a flying sledge-hammer. An important book for the bookshelf of everyone involved in the field of behavior analysis.

Geniousness by Simplicity 20 Sep 2007

Hands Down the best, most eye-opening book I have ever read. Malott cuts all psychological theories down to the basics - and we are presented with his truly scientific version of radical behaviorism. It all makes perfect, basically undebatable, sense; as the reader learns one principle of organsims' behavior after another, with real research (and shockingly effective results) combined with easy to read stories helping to understand newly presented information. Doctor Malott wants to "save the world with behavior analysis," and if this book shows any sign of the field's potential, I think he (we) certainly will.

Entertaining, Educational, and Radical 8 Mar 2012
By Jackson Peebles - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The content is extremely entertaining and easy to read, which is almost unheard-of in such an informative, insightful, and educational textbook. I think that it is a wonderful introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis. The content is radically behaviorist, which Dr. Malott discloses, but that makes sense since it's a behavior analysis book!

Besides the occassional (very minor) grammatical errors/inconsistencies (i.e. vocabulary in book not matching that in glossary, infrequent spelling errors that still should have been caught by the editors, etc.), my only issue is that some of the real-life examples seem a bit exaggerated. He has the real research and cites it, but I feel that it is presented in a way that makes the whole process seem easier than it is. However, he and his assistants are the experts - not me - so I could be wrong from my limited experience thus far.

I'd love to see this as an e-book since it's black/white. I would literally buy a Kindle just for this textbook (hint, hint).
