PRINCIPLES OF ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is an ancient system of Chinese Medicine which is used to treat a wide range of disorders. It works on the energy of the body by inserting extremely fine needles into key points; this in turn disperses blockages, increases the function of specific organs and balances the overall energy of the body, mind and spirit.

This book will tell you:
• How acupuncture is used to restore health and energy
• How a diagnosis and treatment is carried out
• The benefits of acupuncture using patients' case histories
• How to find a good practitioner

Angela Hicks is joint-principal of the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, England, where she also teaches and is a clinical supervisor. She has practised acupuncture for over 20 years and is the author of 'Principles of Chinese Medicine'.

5.0 out of 5 stars A clear concise overview of a beautiful and complex subject:, 23 May 2001

This review is from: Principles of - Acupuncture: The only introduction you'll ever need (Paperback)
As one of the joint principles of the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, Angela Hicks is an expert in the field of acupuncture. In this book she takes you through all of the basic concepts of Chinese Medicine: Yin & Yang, the 5 Elements, Qi, the Meridians, the causes of disease etc, whilst illustrating them with quotes from her own patient's experiences. This is what makes the book so digestible: her art at making such a complex subject simple and comprehensible in combination with illustrating Chinese Medical theory with patient's experiences; thus bringing it alive. This book is a must for anybody interested in acupuncture and would like to know more: from its theory, to what a consultation and treatment entails, and the most obvious and natural question 'Does it hurt?'. It is also a good handbook for practitioners who wish to be more fluent in their explanations of Chinese Medicine to their patients. This book was given to me as a present before I became a student of acupuncture. It helped me as a layperson, and now as a practitioner I find it a good source to draw on to remain coherent to my patients.
