from the 'Usborne First Reading' series of books, written especially for children who are learning to read.
This particular book is LEVEL FOUR.

From the back cover:-

'...."Princesses must not gallop!" said the King.
"Or canter! Or trot!"
But Princess Polly loves riding, so she enters the Pony Dressing-Up Race.......in disguise....'

48 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Numbered pages. Beautifully illustrated throughout, further enhanced by relevant expressions. Complete with lilac ribbon bookmark!
Clear easy-to-follow-text , enhanced in places for effect and with some speech bubbles.

Example of text:-

`Princess Polly was in trouble.
"You've got mud on you!" cried her father, the King.
"And that's not all," said her mother, the Queen.
"You've been galloping on those ponies again!"
"Princesses must not gallop," the King said, crossly.
"Being a princess is boring," said Princess Polly.
"I can't do ANYTHING!" .....

And despite her father's best attempts to enthral his bored daughter with the details of his crown collection(!), Polly's thoughts are with the poster she has spotted advertising the Pony/Dressing-Up competition
The determined Princess enters the Pony Race....and the unthinkable happens.
However all is well that ends well, and Princess Polly gets her wish!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good little first reader book 5 Nov 2012
Polly is a princess who loves riding, much to her parent's despair. So she hides under a costume and takes part in a ride and wins the first prize, a royal wish. For one day a week she is not a princess but can do all things muddy and fun.

My daughter is in Year 1 and reads this with minimal help. With 46 pages and 1-3 sentences per page quite long but the story is entertaining enough. We have a couple of books by Susanne Davidson from Usborne and my daughter really likes the style.
