This is a good book with some great ideas such as coating chicken strips in crushed crisps instead of breadcrumbs etc. Some of the recipes are very time consuming but most can be made or part prepared in advance and even frozen and then finished off on the day. Her pasta sauce recipe (passion pink) is lovely and freezable so it's good to make in bulk and freeze for use anytime.
I used some of the recipes for my daughters butterfly sixth birthday party. All in all I think I could have served up anything and they would have eaten it but I get a great deal of satisfaction from cooking and entertaining so I enjoyed making the food even if they didn't really appreciate all the effort I had had to put in!
I would recommend this book to people who like entertaining and cooking but not to those who want a book to help them 'do a party' but aren't necessarily domestically inclined! Best you go to Tescos and just buy some party food. Most kids won't notice any difference - unfortunately!

Beautifully written book with lovely photos, but I think Annabel Karmel simply has too much time on her hands to create some of the delights in this book, I on the other hand have four children and have got some great ideas, but I don't have quite as much spare time. Love the butter icing on cupcakes in different colours, complete with cupcake stand and lots of pretty gems on the tops of the cakes, takes no longer than normal icing, but kids love them & they are very pretty. I recommend the book if not just for some inspiration. I own every Annabel Karmel book, I think she has some wonderful recipes & the kids do eat them.
