From the very first moment of the film when the music began to play I knew I had to get this soundtrack album.
I was not disappointed when I played the CD.
If you have seen the film this score will bring it all back to you, all your favourite scenes and characters.
You are literally taken through the whole film and it is a fine testament to the musical genius that is Joe Hisaishi.
This is one of the best music scores ever written. Even if you haven't seen the film you will want to after listening to this music.
This musical score ranks besides the music of The Lord Of The Rings. It is very easy to listen to and is very memorable. It mixes Western musical influences with Eastern mysticism, the orchestral movements are both rich and sometimes haunting, both the Japanese and English vocals are beautiful and equisite.
This is a CD you will keep going back to.
I cannot recommend this Cd highly enough.

Princess Mononoke, the brilliant anime by Hayao Miyazaki, is one of my all-time favourite animated films and this soundtrack is full of the utterly beautiful music from the film. All thirty-three pieces of music, by Joe Hisaishi, are universally brilliant if unfortunately short in places, and fit the film perfectly. My particular favourites are `The Tatara Women Work Song' and the absolutely gorgeous `The Legend of Ashitaka'. It goes without saying that anyone who likes the Princess Mononoke film will love this soundtrack and this would also be of interest to any fan of oriental music.

Princess Mononoke is beautific. If you hear this, you will want other Jo Hisaishi albums. The orchestral strains and the occasional vocals swept me away. I remember everything about the film with each track. It not only tells the story -it involves you. Jo Hisaishi is a Japanese play on words, which was meant to mean Quincy Jones, such as the famous Hollywood composer who scored the various Austin Powers films, etc. However, Jo Hisaishi (whom I believe lives in Hawaii by the look of his website), tends toward an eldritch feudal Japanese canted tribal music when representing magic and dark things then flows into smooth and dramatic, epic fantasy music that puts the Lord of The Rings Soundtrack to shame (and that is saying a lot as I am a fan of both Hisaishi and the LoTR soundtracks/Renee Fleming). His golden era Victorian style music for various films he has scored is also reason enough to give Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle (Hauru No Ugoku Shiro) soundtracks both a listen. It's Chopin meets Debussy in a Hayao Miyazaki utopia of the Europe that never was in the early half of the 20th century. Mononoke Hime is my favorite theme on this particular Hisaishi score and I am proud of him for setting a new standard for future virtuosos to emulate and further develop on in this time of apathy. Even now the women's work song track is stuck in my head. Don't pass up this singular and distinctive piece of easily-enjoyable genius.

Just listening to this album reminds me of the film greatly. If I close my eyes and just absorb myself into the music, I can picture what actually happened at the time the music was played. This is a true testimony to the film and anyone who watched Princess Mononoke (or indeed, those who haven't) should get this CD.

Have you seen Princess Mononoke? Did you love it like I did? If you did you will absolutely adore the soundtrack too, I love listening to it on the train or anywhere else when I can't watch the film. All the major score pieces are there in the 33 tracks on the CD which take you through the film track by track.

Even if you haven't seen the film, after you listen to this soundtrack you will want too. It is one of the best music scores ever written; personally I rank it up there with other great soundtracks like that of the Lord of the Rings. . It is a mix of Western musical influences along with Eastern mysticism, the orchestral movements are sublime, and both the Japanese and English vocals are beautiful and exquisite.

I can not recommend this CD highly enough, and the film is a must too!
