Product Description

Princess Mistaya Holiday hasn't been fitting in too well at Carrington Women's Preparatory. People don't seem to appreciate her using her magic to settle matters in the human world. So when she summons a dragon to teach a lesson to the snotty school bully, she finds herself suspended. But Mistaya couldn't care less - she wants nothing more than to continue her studies under Questor the court magician and Abernathy the court scribe. However, her father Ben Holiday, the King of Landover, has rather different plans in mind for her. He thinks he'll teach her about perseverance and compromise by sending her to renovate Libiris, the long-abandoned royal library. How horribly dull. But before long, Mistaya will long for the boredom of cataloguing an unfeasible number of derelict books - for deep within the library there lies a secret so dangerous that it threatens the future of Landover itself ...

Disappointing 1 Sep 2010
By Yulwei
Format:Paperback
About the only good thing I can say for this book is that it sets up the return of Nightshade a character who only got better as the series progressed. With all the King's adversaries either dead or turned into allies there really wasn't much threatening in this book so much so the Paladin didn't even make an appearance. Mistaya is not a compelling character coming across as a spoiled girl. She supposedly matures as the book goes on and begins to take responsibility but the romance Brooks throws in detracts from that. Hopefully Nightshade returns in which case read this book only to understand how she went about it

Enjoyable read 31 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
I have enjoyed all this series of books. This sequel is no diappointment. It focuses mainly on Mistaya and her discovery through teenage angst with a twist of knowing magic. She is made to go to school in our world, but struggles with her connection to nature and Humans apparent disregard for it. It is not long into the book that she finds herself in a whole heap of trouble at school, which culminates with her being sent home.

This book is about her journey back to the right road, being accepted and understanding her place in the 'world'. Beautifully written and engaging story.

Good in places... 1 Aug 2010

The first three books in the sage were, in my opinion, extremely readable and enjoyable. 'The Tangle Box' (book four of the series) was an imaginative and gripping bit of fantasy, by far the best of the four.

Unfortunately 'The Witches Brew' was somewhat off the mark whilst, to me, 'A Princess of Landover' (book six of the saga) shows that Mr Brooks has stretched a good idea far beyond its natural breaking point. And, sadly, the ending of this latest offering suggests that a sequel isn't far away.

Read and enjoy the first four books in the series. Don't expect too much from the last pair and, when it is listed, be a little cautious before pre-ordering the sequel to 'A Princess of Landover'. Wait for some reviews.
