A cracking novel which will draw you in, toss you around and make you laugh. Various minor mysteries - the disappearing Norland nannies, the dogs that die in the night at the hand of an expert sharp shooter, not to mention the possible (indeed probable) Lord Lucan - are merely background scenery for the national plot which the Friends of Diana are cooking up. The Royal Family should beware. Not that it would help them. The stunningly beautiful intelligent fabulously rich Countess behind it all is just too clever and powerful.

It all takes place in the idyllic peaceful countryside surrounding the Oxfordshire village of Milton Magna, with its bird song, river music, darkening evenings and velvet nights.

Read it and love it.

I was in the middle of reading another novel when this book was offered to me. Out of interest I scanned the first page - 4 days later I returned to my original novel!

I'm not usually into conspiracy theories - but this has made me think.

Nice insight into middle England too. Are there really villages like this in the UK?

Worth a read.

Author of the best subversive children's book ever (The Borribles knocking Pullman/Rowling etc firmly into place), great travel writing and autobiographical tales Michael De Larrabeiti turns his hand to thriller writing. As you'd expect from a man who isn't easily pigeonholed, this isn't a mere thriller, in fact for those Diana conspiracy theorists amongst you, MDL draws upon his experiences from interviewing royalty to provide an entirely plausible scenario. Fast paced and as snappy as you'd expect from an such an accomplished practitioner of his art, this is a greatly readable book with some fantastic descriptive writing of not only the closeted relationship of a small Oxfordshire village but the struggles of the "little" man who is not in true control of his destiny. Great writing and enjoyable reading...
