Reviews

Star-studded film adaptation of Mark Twain's adventure novel featuring Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Rex Harrison and George C Scott, among others. Tom Canty (Mark Lester) is a poor boy from the slums of London who swaps places with Prince Edward (also Lester), heir to the throne and the spitting image of his lowly subject. Trading places opens the eyes of both boys, but complications ensue when King Henry VIII (Charlton Heston) dies.

An outstanding cast brings to life the Mark Twain Classic in the best version of The Prince and the Pauper ever made.
Charlton Heston, as Henry VIII, Rex Harrison as the Duke of Norfolk, George C Scott as The Ruffler, (Oliver Reed) Miles Hendon and Edith (Raquel Welch) as rescuers to The Prince (Mark Lester) and the confused Pauper also played by Mark Lester is brilliant. Historically accurate and highly entertaining, enjoy sword fights and acrobatic antics, and a Coronation like none other.
This is comparable to the Four Musketeers with many of the same cast members! Have a great ride!

Lovely film from childhood, fun, energetic and full of character. Oliver Reed never disappoints. This version has been mastered well enough onto DVD, no problems with playback etc. Arrived in time as well.

A good film to watch on a wet Sunday afternoon. An exceellent cast of actors including Oliver Reed,Ernest Borgnine, George C Scott, Charlton Heston and Rex Harrison with Raquel Welch adding the glamour element. A film full of frivolity, action and some humour in which you can escape. It compares (possibly because Ollie Reed and Raquel Welch star) with The Musketeers and Man in the Iron Mask so if you like this sort of film then this is one to watch. Its an old story with "old" actors but very well made and enjoyable!
