4.0 out of 5 stars Thrice the fun, but only for newcomers, 6 Feb 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Ubisoft have finally put together the 3 Prince of Persia games in one low priced package. All 3 games have been consistently excellent in terms of gameplay, and each instalment has brought something new to the franchise.

The Sands of Time is generally considered to be the finest of the three, and although gameplay can at times become repetitive and tedious, still enables gamers to experience a fun, if somewhat forgiving, challenge. Graphically The Sands of Time is now beginning to look dated when compared to some of the new next generation games, however the attention to detail is excellent, and presents the Prince in a very storybook setting. The controls are excellent, being both responsive and instinctive - the Prince's agile moves can be linked together effortlessly, to produce some very impressive results. Unfortunately the game is relatively short and being generally linear, and it is very difficult to become lost in the vast palace.

Warrior Within is a much lengthier affair, and the simple button bashing combat system has now been replaced with a more drawn out 'Free-Form' combo mechanics. This allows much more variety - and even allows different types of combat depending on what weapons the Prince is wielding at the time. It is evident much more focus was placed on combat this time around, and in turn makes Warrior Within much bloody than its predecessor. Despite this, the game's strong point remains the excellent way you have to navigate the intelligent puzzels and well designed levels using the Prince's Spiderman-like moves.

The trilogy is completed with The Two Thrones, which includes an added twist of playing as both the Prince and his darker alter-ego. This change is much more than simply cosmetic, as the two characters must rely on vastly different styles to navigate the game. Graphically The Two Thrones is by far the better of the three, and even includes frantic chariot races, however these actually proves to be one of the game's downsides, as at times they can become very much trial and error. Fortunately The Two Thrones still includes heaps of traps to negotiate and puzzles to solve, and like Warrior Within, provides a lengthily challenge.

Overall Prince of Persia Trilogy is excellent, combining three superb games - unfortunately there is nothing to be found here for anyone who has played the games previously. There is absolutely no bonus material (with the exception of the original Prince of Persia game found on The Sands of Time). If however you are new to the series, you will find hours of fun in the trilogy; and as the games run as a series, the storyline continues throughout, with characters reappearing. The experience is therefore much more satisfying if the games are played in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 1 Jun 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
an amazing package!

Sands of time: this is the first part and is very fun to play. the story pulls you in from the word go. the graphics are very good considering it came out a while ago. the only letdown is the combat which is repetative throughout! 9/10

Warrior within: In m oppinion, this is the weakest in the trilogy, the darker tone and setting was to attract adult gamers but it lost its appeal as a result. the prince was portraid as a hero at the end of the first but in this he becomes annoying and arrogant. however, the story line still amazes me when i play it. the combat is much improved from the first, however still not quite right. the only letdown is the gameplay, though the combat may be better, the level bigger and harder, u will still find your self bored at times as you will need to revisit levels again and again. it is because of this that i give it a 6/10.

The two thrones: now this is the best part. it takes everything that was right with the first two and fixes almost everything that was wrong with them. the story ends the trilogy and still manages to involve the player. the combat is at last fixed and far easier to fight. the graphics are some of the best i have seen yet! the levels are amazing and there is NO revisiting. this gets a 10/10

overall, this is a must for any gamer!

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 Princes no purple rain , 23 Mar 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This collection of 3 games is a real bargain for under £13.00 - buy indivdually if over.
These games tells a story of rich naive Prince who's tricked to into unleashing the Sands of time and the battle for his very soul and exsistance in Warrior Within and 2 Thrones. Its a good mixture of skill, puzzle solving and fighting.
The puzzle solving and skill is what keeps making you go further and further into the games till you complete them.

The Sands of Time
The start of the series and I feel the 2nd best in the series only let down by slightly cartoony graphics of the prince in close up/FMV. Itsa brilliant introduction to the series that has a good learning curve that makes you get use to the brilliant control system before it throws some really nasty Room puzzles at you.Using the unleashed sands to slow time /rewind and really help you out when you go flying of the cliff at a wrong angle! The fighting is kind of linear as generally ones you sort out how to kill the few enemies you can use the same method over and over. However the room/dungeon graphics and general atomosphere is brilliant huge scale walls and rooms to climb and work out the goal of leaving the room with your life.

Warrior Within
This is easily my favourite, a proper improvement on every scale from sands of time. It's Brutal/Bloody and quite a dark game with its rock sound track kicking in at pivatol moments. The fighting has improved to 2 handed and a host of special kill methods. The way you need to go back into time to access certain rooms as these change with the period your set in.
Grpahically again its bloody themes echo. Brilliant FMV's ...and add the improved boucing of walls/hanging wall running its the best in the series.

Two Thrones
With this game i was disappointed as graphically I think it s a leap back from warrior within and control wise I generally dont like this Quick kill skill. The fact you change into your Evil dark alter ego to refresh the game shows it needs it from going really stale in gameplay.

Great games, great value.

All three games are platformers, though they vary in controls, amount of combat sequences and depth of story. Read more
