Amazon.co.uk review

Primeval may be a little daft, and it may be ITV trying to capture some of the success that the BBC has enjoyed with Doctor Who, but for brainless Saturday night entertainment, it’s quite a blast.

Picking up from where the series before it left off, it finds Professor Nick Cutter and his team once again dealing with creatures quite literally out of their time. But this time, Primeval has a few more tricks up its sleeve. Because while the convention for much of series one was that the creatures that faced Cutter and his crew were arriving from the past, this time round there are monsters from the future to worry about too. Cue the likes of a woolly mammoth on the motorway, and a raptor-esque chase around a shopping centre.

Primeval then blends in some twisty narratives surrounding the characters themselves, which - while not particularly intricate or surprising - do keep the fun jollying along. And backed up with special effects that range from the very good to the slightly creaky, it does its best to throw as much at the screen as it can.

Superior to the season that preceded it, but still with some way to go to be regarded as any kind of classic, Primeval is nonetheless undoubtedly still very good fun, and the seven episodes here are suitable for family viewing too. Enjoyable, and worth checking out. --Jon Foster

DVD Description

As series one of Primeval reached its devastating conclusion Professor Nick Cutter was having a rather bad day. And he still is. His estranged wife Helen has deceived him; tricking him into going through the anomalies one last time. But something has gone terribly wrong. Upon his return to the present, the world as he knows it has changed. And He and Helen are the only ones who know. When series two opens, Claudia Brown has never existed and the others have no idea who she was. Can Nick convince his team that their actions have inadvertently altered the course of nature? But he has absolutely no idea what went wrong or how he can fix it…

Along the way Nick and his team encounter some beastly opponents that find their way through the anomalies. From a family of raptors going wild in the aisles of a local shopping mall, a sabre-tooth at an amusement park, to a Woolly Mammoth holding up the traffic on the M25, the creatures just keep on coming...

Includes exclusive DVD extra ‘Through The Anomaly’, an access all areas behind the scenes documentary made by Andrew-Lee Potts.

Also including audio commentaries.

A true hidden gem 15 Feb 2010
Format:DVD
Primeval is a really good SF series! It has very likeable characters, a quite interesting plot and well done special effects. While it does have this specific UK feel to it (as Torchwood does as well, for example), it only comes out as more 'exotic' rather than of lesser quality than the big blockbuster USA series.
So what this is saying I suppose is that if you like dinosaurs and are looking for a good TV series to spend some time with, Primeval is a very good choice.

The plot thickens 15 May 2010
Format:DVD
The new timeline changes. Douglas Hershall still has a nutty wife he thought was dead but no girlfriend - hell hath no fury like a women that can change timelines. The ARC has come into existence and his previous love interest has a different name, a different life and doesn't know he exists. There is betrayal, double dealing and not a few red herrings as we move towards the realisation that there are a number of players trying to map out time and use it to their own ends. Very watchable and much underrated series. The new boss of the ARC adds a an extra dimension and a counterpoint to Hershall's unorthodoxy by being the not-so-civil servant.

Primeval 10 Jun 2009
Format:DVD
I love this show! When I first started to watch these I wasn't too impressed. However now I can't get enough of them, I have even managed to make the rest of my family fans of this show.
Ok, the graphics are not as good as Doctor Who but for exitment, Primeval occasionally exeeds Doctor Who.
Season two has a nice (or not nice, depending on how you look at it) range of creatures, the story lines have picked up thier pace with a bit more complexity, loads of great action. (Love the Raptors in the mall, hate that a principal character dies.)
The only thing I can complain about is they don't make enough episodes per season.
All in all, well worth the price and will provide entertainment for all the family.

Brilliant!
I think this is the strongest of all the first three seasons of primeval. I loved the concept of a conspiracy, and all the acting was great, especially Douglas Henshalls. Read more

Doesn't quite all add up but fun anyway!
We watched the whole series in one day, so some of the 'anomalies' in the story line were more obvious than if we had watched it over several weeks. Read more
