In this mix between a psychological thriller and legal drama William Diehl skillfully builds up the tension and manages to keep up the suspense until the very last page. His characters are real and intriguing and just as you start to feel compassionate towards the young murderer, Diehl makes you feel as betrayed by this same character as Martin Vail does.
Diehl does not slip into lengthy descriptions but tells the story at a fast pace which really makes it unputdownable. The only remedy for filling the emptiness you feel after finishing this super exiting book is by reading Diehl's sequence "Show of Evil" in which both Martin Vail and Aaron Stampler return.

As thrillers go, nothing beats a well written page turner with a twist, and in Primal Fear all of the essentials are in place. From page one the book takes over, ceaselessly gripping from start to finish. The characters are well formed and written, the courtroom drama electric, and the final twist packing in punch. This one will keep you up past bedtime!

A fantastic story, with mystery and intrigue. Graphic detail that left me with no doubt about how the scene would have looked. A chilling account of brutal murder and mental anguish. Aaron is portrayed as a cunning, vulnerable brutal boy in a mans body.

Intruiging and fast paced - it was almost like being there

chilling and thrilling a really good read
It was graphic and detailed on every page. Very difficult to put down once you started to read it. Absolutely brilliant

Unputdownable triller with a twist!
It seems a straight forward triller of the John Grisham mode but as you delve deeper into the story you realise its much much more. The ending was GREAT!
