Book Description

26 Feb 2010 Shifters Unbound
Collared and controlled, Shifters are outcast from humanity, forced to live in Shiftertowns. But waiting within are passions that no collar can contain. Like most Shifters, Liam Morrissey has learned that trusting humans leads to no good. But when beautiful attorney Kim Fraser enters Shiftertown alone in order to prove her client's innocence, Liam's alpha nature leaves him no choice but to offer his protection.

5.0 out of 5 stars love it :D 28 Jan 2012

this is a bril read in the sense that its not like other shifter/breed like book
the shifters are treated less than humans which is a new approach on these.
I brought this book and could not put it down and was quickly back on amazon and downloading the rest of the series.
All these books have great lead characters that have more to them then being shifters or helpless females.
Only downside ive got is that the next book isn't out yet so im back to searching for the next good read :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a great new series 21 Oct 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've never read anything from this author before and I wonder why not. This was a great start to a brand new series. It was hot, sexy and full of lovable characters. I loved the background story too and i'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes. I'm buying the next book straight away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed... 17 Mar 2013
By Rebekka
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm not really sure what to say about Pride Mates...It wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't great... I had great expectations for Jennifer Ashley's contemporary stories after I read the MacKenzie family series. But somehow, Pride Mates lacked that little extra that connected the characters, the plot and the flow of the story. At some point I just though 'plot what plot?'. Most of the pages consisted of how hot Liam was, how muscled he was or how sassy Kim was. It made me sigh in exasperation. Even when Kim was in a really scary situation or in a highly dangerous one, she always found time to admire Liam's body before going back to being scared or hysterical.

I feel there's a pretty big difference between Pride Mates and Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling series - even though both is about finding ones mate and conflict between races, the Singh's series kinda lifted its gaze above the mating/sex stuff and also had a damn good development in overall plot throughout the books, in addition to a great character cast. The heroes in Psy/Changeling were all different and so was their mates. In this Shifter Unbound series Sean is just another Ronan who's just another Liam and so forth. Same with the heroines. And it was several places it was mentioned how sassy Kim was or Elisabeth (Bodyguard) was - I don't want to be told, I want to read!

Lastly, I just want to express my surprise in how the quality of the writing and the story is so different from the MacKenzie's almost like there was two different authors...In the MacKenzie series I felt the characters connecting beyond the physical. In the Shifter Unbound series they never really fell in love, not in a way that made me really feel it, even though they announce it all over the place how much they care about their mate. The backstory of the Shifter's is also somehow half-done, almost like Ashley just put it in there so that the characters had something to talk about...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pride Mates 10 May 2010
By Julia
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Interesting concept but a lot of sex. If you can separate the story from the explicit descriptions, its not half bad. Basically its about a human woman, a lawyer, from outside the shifter community learning about shifters and how they live, all tied up (no pun intended) with a case she is defending where a shifter has been accused of murdering his human girlfriend. Certain elements within the shifter community want to help her, others don't. However, there's no getting round it, there is a lot of explicit sexual descriptions which can, on occasion, detract slightly from the plotline. Not against explicit sexual descriptions as such, but too many and you run of the risk of having a porn novel with fantasy overtones, rather than a fantasy novel with sexual content. This book skirts the line but maybe less is more for the sequel?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
I loved this book!!! I would put it in the same category as the Black Dagger Brotherhood - brooding gorgeous males to do over but also a very good story to go along with it! Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it
Only bad thing that I can say is that Kim was way too excepting of a situation that she knew nothing about. Bar that a fantastic read like with all jennifer Ashley`s books!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mild entertainment and a bit of brogue
So once again I wish we could give half a star. Given the option I would have rated this book 3 and 1/2 stars rather than the full four as I've rated better books at 4 in the past... Read more
