Very chilled 24 Oct 2010
By Tommy D TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I had bought his latest album before getting this one and this is so different. It is almost minimalist everything pared back just leaving the essence of the tunes. It is haunting throughout and I did not quite get it at first but then I saw a video someone had kindly posted on 'You Tube' featuring the mournfully beautiful 'Wolves'from this album (it features native Americans playing with thier dogs in the snow from around 1940 and it exquisite)and I listened to the whole album again and it clicked.

Stand out tracks are the aforementioned 'Wolves' but also opener 'A Picture of Our Torn Up Praise' which he (they) played on his (thier) recent tour with the same gusto as the tracks on 'Heres to taking It Easy' and it worked even better. Also 'My Dove My Lamb'. The album does descend into animal like yelps and whoops on final track 'Pride' which I must admit I really do not get and as it is only 8 tracks I felt a wasted opportunity, but all in all still a really lovely piece of work.

Stunning 29 Jan 2008
Format:Audio CD
I find this album stunningly emotional, deeply moving and musically captivating. If you like folk with a more beautifully subtle experiemental edge, with glorious harmonies and wonderful guitar and percussion then this is for you - if you're not sure, try it anyway. And if you have the chance, see this man live: it will change your life.
Try, and enjoy. I hope it effects you as much as it did, and still does, me.

Proud 16 Feb 2009
Format:Audio CD
Phosphorescent absolutely blew my mind at the ATP Festival in 2008, so I bought this album, and it posthumously became my favourite album of 2007. The songs are heartfelt and moving, and the DIY nature of the recording is wonderfully personal.
