Product Description

A saga of two centuries, two countries and three dynasties, told through the history of the Prideaux banking dynasty of London, the Pride dynasty of Australia and the Summers family of women whose lives are entwined between both. The author also wrote "London's Child" and "The Millionaire".

From the Author

A family romance joins England and Australia
Pride is a saga of two families, one English, one Australian, descended from the two warring brothers in the 1800s. Each family grows rich and powerful, and the ancient feud reaches its climax in the present day. I loved writing this book because it was the chance to spend so much time in Oz visiting every location - King Island, Macquarie Harbour and Hell's Gates, the Gordon River and the little- known backwaters of Tasmania and southern Australia. Everyone was incredibly helpful about working out the last two hundred years of history in the man-made wilderness of Tasmania's west coast. Some locations could only be researched by seaplane; for another scene I slogged through roaring machinery-filled caverns half a mile beneath the copper mountain, Mount Lyell. The really great thing about writing Pride was how the disappeared world came to life - the prison shipwreck, the hardscrabble lives of the Pride family on King Island, the complete destruction by fire of the island and all they had built, the new lives they made and the wealth they found on the West Coast - all this went into the book, which remains a firm favourite. And all topped by a Will lost and forgotten for two hundred years! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
