carrie is from a poor family she wears rags and often has no food, she gets a job as a pub cleaner and things start to pick up for her. she meets eli and joanna at the pub, eli has a dream to start a music room in some old stables on land at the pub. Problems occur with this land as someone else wants it, and this person causes all sorts of trouble for them which gets quite dramaitic and exciting. In this book is hard luck, romance, fights, death and even a kidnapping later on. It is very good if you like katie flynn you will like this.

Set the the early days of the music hall, against all odds Carrie Preston steps out of the obscurity of the back streets to work at Hedderby's new music saloon. This well-written and researched tale holds the interest while it warms the cockles of your heart.
