I'm wondering how the publisher can justify the kindle version being more expensive than the hardback version

I think this is a major issue with the Kindle. E books should not be more expensive than the hardback or paperback versions. The problem is you can't shop around for the best price for Kindle books can you. It's a shame and a major fault with the Kindle reader. Conqueror by Conn Iggulden for example is currently £3.85 paperback and £5.99 Kindle version.
