J. Colquitt says:
Come on Amazon, lower the price a bit!
Steam are selling it for £27 and you get Portal 1 free; where's the competition?

P. McCauley says:
Then buy it from steam, why complain?

They can offer it lower as they earn so much more money selling it on steam than through a retailer, and valve owning steam means they get 100% of the profit rather than the 30% from the retailer.

Probably would be wise of valve to only sell Portal 2 through steam, but they sell on retailers to offer choice

J. Colquitt says:
I would rather a hard copy so I don't have to download it and to keep as memorabilia lol.
You make some fair points about Valve being able to offer it cheaper, but this should be an incentive to Amazon to cut the sale price in order to boost sales and make more money overall, hopefully.
It's already down to £28 now, hopefully by release date it will be even lower.

You shouldn't complain. The Euro price on steam for Portal 2 is about 40 pounds (45 euro, incl the 10% discount). The price on Amazon is currently 28...
So for EU customers, Amazon is almost 40% cheaper!

S Roberts says:
Its £24.91 now which is cheaper than steam even with their 10% discount. The only way to get it cheaper is buying it on steam as a 2-pack which comes in at £23.99.

I will pay 92p more for a boxed copy.

Chris Noakes says:
I've ordered the boxed copy for a bit more, too.

At least when we [should] get it on release day, I can install from the CD instead of waiting ages for Steam to download it as people will be hammering the download servers...

Then sell it as a 'portal 2 replacement cd' on eBay!

Good luck finding someone who wants to buy that.

I'm tempted to get a hard copy too, so I can bung it on my ssd without fussing around with junction points.

its ridiculously priced everywhere, its a small puzzle game - £15 quid tops when new, when portal 1 was new it could be found for about £7, it is a fantastic game but so are magika, minecraft, super meat boy, portal 1 etc. and you dont find them being priced this way

I disagree, portal 1 was indeed "just" a puzzle game. It was a bit short, it was more of a "fun project" than a game and was packed with the big AAA titles (HL2+TF2).

Portal 2 however, is a full Triple-A game. Valve put on an entire team, just like with TF2 and L4D, to make it; I expect Valve quality storywriting, voice acting, gameplay, balanced pressure/stress moments, difficulty, and those tiny details....
The fact that they sell it at a Triple-A price only confirms it even more; This is not 'just' a puzzle game anymore!

Valve, like Blizzard is one of the few game development studios where you will definitely notice the quality difference between big studio's and indie developers (even though I also live indie games).

Anyway, this is just my opinion, and haven't played the game yet... Valve, you better not make a fool out of me!

J. Colquitt says:
I agree with M Scheurwater, it's more than a small puzzle game this time round; its a full blown game.
The price now what it is seems fairly reasonable so I'm happy to pre-order my copy.

Here is a reply from Amazon.co.uk when asked if they have the same pre-order bonus Amazon.de has.:

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.

I can understand that currently a pre-order bonus is being offered by our partner website Amazon.de for this item 'Portal 2'.

For details on all our current Pre-Order Promotions, you can find the information at the following URL:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.h...9573

If you have seen a Pre-Order Promotion on a Video Game product sold on another website, possibly even Amazon.de, but do not see the same offer listed on Amazon.co.uk, it means that the Promotion is not available on Amazon.co.uk.

We are always seeking ways to improve the customer experience of shopping on Amazon.co.uk, but we regret we cannot tell customers about any offers that may be available at a future time.

Thank you for your interest in Amazon.co.uk

J. Pritchard says:
Nearly finished the single player game. It's certainly not short. Valve have delivered the goods with Portal 2. Standard price for possibly the most epic game since HL1 - it's a bargain.

In reply to an earlier post on 20 Apr 2011 11:40:27 BDT
You've nearly finished the single player? Steam released it yesterday, so if you've almost completed it, how can you say it's not short?

J. Pritchard says:
It unlocked when I connected to Steam at 7AM and I was still playing at midnight. Granted I only logged about 8 hours play time so far, but I've not even touched the co-op section yet.

Posted on 20 Apr 2011 14:09:14 BDT
I guess we can only hope that the co-op side of things will last just as long as the single player campaign. That, for me, would be acceptable for the games asking price.

J. Pritchard says:
IMO it offers a good campaign length and a terrific amount of fun. Of course that's subjective but I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy the game.

Chung says:
I'm really looking forward to play the game. I've got it, but the damn pressure from the feckin exams are doing my backside in. Plus, I can't actually waste my brain power on some puzzle game, when I need to solve puzzles in a few weeks. Otherwise it would be kinda contradictory.

Plus there's really no point in having a go at the price. After all, you really can't put a price on entertainment!
