Product Description

An extremely well written book, with splendid dialogue. The characters and scenery are vivid in their descriptions and examples. Readers are shown numerous aspects of the plot line, giving the book a depth few first novels achieve. -- Coffee Time Romance and More, February 2010

Product Description

"This is a well-written researched story of love, the first of a series of novels involving the same characters, which is set in late 19th century France and England. Overall, the book is a satisfying historical romance." - Judge's Critique - Writer's Digest

The year is 1878, and the setting is Paris, France. It's a place of privilege and comfort for the rich, but one of heartache and struggle for the poor. Upon the death of her father, Suzette is thrown from the comforts of middle-class life into the terror of homelessness on the streets of Paris. Without family or friends, she struggles to survive. Her journey takes her from charity houses to the grueling life of a laundress. When her plight becomes unbearable, she is enticed by the mistress of the most famous brothel in France to live in luxury and service her aristocratic clientele. On her first night, she meets Lord Robert Holland who receives more than he bargained for in the price of her virginity.

Just when you think the story has ended, The Price of Deception (Book Two) continues five years later with the reunion of Suzette and Robert.

More About the Author

Since I was a young child, I've wanted to write. The drive has always been there in my soul, but the circumstances have not. When I finally found the courage to step out, I began writing my first novel. Nearly five years and six books later, I can attest to the fact it's never too late to follow your dreams. Recently, my Victorian romance, Dark Persuasion, was honored as an Award-Winning Finalist in the 'Fiction: Romance' category of The 2012 USA Best Book Awards, sponsored by USA Book News.

I live in the beautiful, but rainy, Pacific Northwest, with a pesky cat who refuses to let me sleep. My hobbies include researching my English ancestry, plotting my next book, and traveling to England.

I have just finished The Price Of Innocence. I recommend it to all lovers of a good romance. I read it nearly in one sitting as I could not put it down· I have to say that I did not expect it to be so good and so well written. Due to the subject of the book, I expected it to be a sleazy novel. But no, it is a beautful romance and there is nothing too graphic. I shall not go over the plot, my title says it all. But for some reason, you feel more for Robert than you feel for Suzette. I felt sometimes that Suzette was too cliche in her naivety . I have just downloaded The Price of Deception which is the sequel and I hope it will be as good..

3.0 out of 5 stars So so 19 Jan 2014

Didn't really enjoy this book, mostly because I loathed Robert. Undecided about purchasing the other two in this series as I really would be irritated if Robert got a happy ending! Granted, his behaviour at the brothel was compassionate and honourable, but he turned that to his own advantage as soon as possible.
That aside, I also found the writing style rather annoying due to the repetition involved by showing an incident from different povs. Sometimes, this tactic enhances a story, in this case, for me it didn't. I am unlikely to recommend this book but would not actually try to deter others from purchasing. Some may well enjoy it for the reasons I did not.

1.0 out of 5 stars An over-exaggerated, ridiculous waste of time 3 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Whatever promise this novel held to begin with was destroyed within mere chapters as the main character Suzette quickly revealed herself to be a weak and pathetic ninny, without a brain or personality. Not worth the time it took to download.

I found this book so boring that I could only read two chapters. It may have improved later in the story but not for me
