Book Description

1 May 1994 Aliens Vs. Predator (Book 1)
Machiko Noguchi accepted the assignment of supervising the ranching colony on Ryushi as a challenge. Little did she know that not onl would she have run the colony, she'd have to defend it with her life!

First the carcass of a spiderlike alien is discovered. Then a rancher's family is massacred. Finally a creature unlike any ever seen before is brought to the colony medical center, near death. It soon becomes clear thtat not one but two strains of alien life have landed near the settlement of Prosperity Wells. One kind -- beetle black with shells hard as steel -- have been spawned as the prey in a deadly hunt. The other kind -- upright like humans but infinitely stronger and just as smart -- are the Predators. Between them are the human colonists, unarmed and vulnerable. With the entire colony at risk, Machiko Noguchi must choose between death and survival -- and may find her greatest ally in a Predator ready to kill her...

I was hooked on the PC game AVP and so got the book.
I found the insight gained into the culture of the Preds and the Biology of the Aliens was done in an imaginative and very clever way; I even found myself relating to the Predator culture and understanding the motivations.
Be warned, this book has a brilliant ending...

After playing the game Aliens vs. Predator on my PC, I thought I would read the books. After reading 8 of the Alien books, all 3 of the Predator books and the other 2 AvP books, this one was the best. Reading the story from the Predators' point of view worked extremely well. All we need now is more AvP books in the series to follow on from AvP:War.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!! 1 Jun 2005
By J. Snook VINE™ VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Luck is a funny thing isn't it? I mean luck was the reason why I actually read this book. When you are stuck in a place where you don't know anyone and have nothing to do, what do you do? You pick up a book and start reading! That was what happened with this book, and I'm so glad I did pick it up. It is quite simply one of the best books I have ever read.
It is written by Steve and Stephani Perry. I had not read any of Steve's work but I had read some of Stephani's.
I started reading this excellent book and thus, I discovered my favourite fictional character ever. Machiko Noguchi. She is so cool; if this book did not have her it would not have been the same. She brings a real down to earth feeling to the novel and is just an instantly likeable character.
I thought the story line of this book was brilliant and I was relieved to find that it was not too complicated. The in depth detail helps you understand the predators and the aliens a lot more as opposed to in the films.
This book was funny, scary, charming, thought provoking and action packed in all the right places.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and I cannot wait to start the next one. This book is basically 259 pages of pure class!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Addictive and atmospheric Book 29 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Alien vs Predator prey is one of the finest books I've read and combines two of the most terrifying characters into one universe. Steve and Stephani Perry not only tell the story through the human's perspective but also through the Predators. They have created a new language for the Predators, which adds to the overwhelming atmosphere and the addictiveness of this book which all sci-fi fans should read.

5.0 out of 5 stars AvP: Prey 28 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Absolutly kick ass book! I strongly recomend it to any aliens or predator fans. The story is through the eyes of both humans and predators, which for me showed the predators in a completely new light. The story follows the life of uptight Machiko Noguchi, the leader of a ranching colony on planet Ryushi who nobody really likes. But when it comes down to survival, if she wants to live then shes going to have to pull it together and take control of the colony.
There are two things standing in the colonies way, firstly, the predators. We follow the life of Dachande, a veteran blooded predator warrior in charge of his students, and their first hunt. But when their ship is destroyed by a human, and Dachande is supposedly killed, the students take control, and they're out for revenge.
The second thing threatening the colony are the aliens; spawned under the control of the predators they are a deadly enemy, with armour like steel, acid blood, and infinate razor sharp teeth, they're running free, and all hell is about to break loose...

5.0 out of 5 stars Just to clear things up... 13 Jun 2007
By Louise
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This isn't really a review, there are over 30 to choose from already. This is really a response to the review left by jukebox joe & any of the other reviewers who have said the same.

Yes, the fact that in the book they are portrayed as stupid & easy to kill is unfair but what you're forgetting is that in the book (written in 90-91) they are just aliens but in alien resserection they are the result of cross-cloning!

Ripley ends up with alien DNA & traits & the alien queen ends up giving birth as apposed to laying eggs so they would have some amount, however small, of Ripley's DNA &/or human traits. That's why they appear smarter then normal in the film & seem to communicate with each other.

I just felt that i needed to clarify & point that out for anyone who has never read these books &/or watched the films so they understand it clearly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly great book. 17 Jun 2005
Format:Mass Market Paperback
There are some books that are just so good you end up reading them over and over again. It gives a wonderful insight in to the world of the predator their culture and attitudes and even what they consider to be right and wrong.

This book is a beautiful creative piece on Alien Vs Predator. It has some wonderful characters that you just end up falling in love with.

The main character's Dachande and Machiko Noguchi are a really great pair and are written really well. As they fight to survive and have to confront the horrors awaiting them.

While doing this it delivers an action packed and great story, which you just can't put down. I really recommend any one who's seen the old Predator and Aliens movies as well as the new Aliens Vs Predator movie to read this book.

You'll love every minute it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should have been the first AvP film
I actually read this in the 80`s in "warrior" a "Black horse" Magazine and thought then that it would make a great film. A good story and a strong female lead in the "Ripley" mode. Read more
