3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 16 Sep 2010
I liked the idea of this book much more than the actual book, I'm afraid. It's a nice enough little read, and I like the fact that it includes knitting and sewing patterns, some of which I haven't seen in other places. (Though in the case of the knitted dungarees, there may be a good reason for that!)

The format of the book didn't work for me at all. It's much smaller than most sewing books, and the patterns at the end need a lot of blowing up. The instructions seemed too crammed in for my liking. While the layout does enhance the vintage feel of the book I found it so off-putting that I haven't even attempted any of the projects in the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Errata 10 July 2011
By Kik.Kik
Really disappointed with this book. It's not really a craft book with doable projects. Tried the snowdrop bootees but there are so many errors in the pattern and I can't find a schedule of errata anywhere. So am not inclined to try any thing else from the book. The dresses are pretty but no instructions or patterns. Begun to think that it's a cynical attempt to get crafters to buy what they think is a 'vintage' craft book but it's really insubstantial albeit lovely to look at.

2.0 out of 5 stars disapointed 12 April 2011
By susie
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I was very disapointed to recieve this book, because there is a lot of photos of beautifull dresses that are not included with a pattern in the book. All the dresses I bought the book for a not included in the book. The book is also very small and thin. If a had seen it in a shop I would never had bought it.
But the layout and the book is real pretty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cross and Disappointed 7 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I am so annoyed with this book. I bought it purely for the Heirloom Gown, the instructions for which, now I have come to make it, are incomplete. If you would like to make a gown with no sleeves or back yoke, then fine, if you expected to make a complete item then DO NOT buy this book. The front cover is deceptively cute and some of the project photos look nice but really, the whole thing is a waste of money. If I had read all the reviews I would never have bought the book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Information 7 July 2010
I bought this book as I am into little sewing projects and probably rate as an intermediate. I thought this would be a lot of sewing but a lot of it is knitting or blankets making whereas I prefer making garments. The pictures are lovely but the book is quite small as is the writing and the patterns. I was a bit disappointed as I didn't think the description matches the book...however if you're into knitting or making presents for people this is the book for you but be prepared to get photocopying as the book is small.

3.0 out of 5 stars inspiring but confusing 9 Aug 2011
This book is lovely to look at,it is interesting and inspiring to read, but it is very difficult to make the clothes from the instructions in the book. I made the Down-Home Overalls, but the instructions were not clear and the photos did not show what I needed to know...Why is the waist band so long? Do the sides fasten? How exactly is the bib attatched?
I then went on to the Heirloom Gown, but there is no pattern to copy, and the instructions contain dimensions only for the front yoke and skirt. What about the back yoke and sleeves?
Shouldn't these things be tested before publication?
