5.0 out of 5 stars Pressure Cooking Novice 10 Jun 2008
My Mother has had the old fashioned type of Prestige pressure cooker for many years, which I watched her use throughout my childhood. On a whim after watching Jamie Oliver use a similar style pressure cooker to this one, to make one of his soups. I thought this must be a buy for me. Have just used to make a mound of potatoes for a cottage pie. Then went on to use to cook a selection of vegetables, carrots, baby corn, french beans, sugarsnaps and courgettes all in one go. Wow, no steamed out kitchen, one pot washing up. Found this very easy to use. Read instructions carefully, must get cooker up to pressure before reducing heat. I think cooking times are a guide line and cook to own taste, this comes with practice and use.

I read the reviews and risked buying it.

I managed to get it to come to pressure twice.

Then on it's a battle of trying to bring to pressure, steam pouring out, adjusting slider. Taking off heat, taking lid off, returning to heat, not coming to pressure, repeat and repeat.

Now sits on shelf hardly used, is it worth the effort of sending it back? Phoning them up? Money back?

Don't waste your time buying this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pressure cooker review 28 Sep 2010

Good replacement for my 35 year old prestige pressure cooker (the handle broke), but I dislike to inner basket as they are not as efficient as the separators in my original pressure cooker.

I don't think the build quality is good-the handle looks like it's been hewn into shape

the cooker leaked at the handle, I tried it 3 times to ensure it wasn't me

finally I called prestige-very nice, helpful lady apologised, took my details & promised to send new parts - 7-10 working days, they arrived in 3 days I think - however I had to dismantle & replace the existing parts-which not everybody would be able to do - little old lady comes to mind...

have tried it again-just boiling water - no apparent leaks - fingers xxx'd

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice pressure cooker 17 Dec 2006
By Cath
Nice pressure cooker, much more modern than my last one. It does everything it should do without any problems at all. Quite reasonably priced too. If you are looking to buy a pressure cooker then I would certainly recommend this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy one. 5 Aug 2009
Verified Purchase
I bought this pressure cooker as a replacement for my 20 year old one. I was surprised at the lack of quality workmanship, with a few sharp edges, etc and tacky plastic detailing. It was very leaky, with water dripping out of the lid and into the handles, filling them with scalding water. I checked the gasket, but it was fine. I have used pressure cookers successfully for over 20 years without any problems, and even though I persevered with this one, I have had to send it back to amazon and I am awaiting a refund.

Don't waste your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars bad build 6 Oct 2010
By mir
The first one broke the top seal in first week. After replacement, had second one for a year, worked for 7 - 8 months then the pressure valve and the locking mechanism went. Straight to the bin it went.
