Principles Of Pressure Cooking

Under normal conditions water boils at a temperature of 100° C (212° F). This temperature is dictated by atmospheric pressure and cannot increase no matter how long boiling continues. The cook control on your Prestige Cooker increases the pressure inside the cooker which in turn raises the temperature at which the liquid boils. The result is faster cooking time because of the higher temperature obtained and at the same time the steam is forced through the food, cooking and tenderizing it.

The Advantages of Pressure Cooking:

Speed: because of the high temperatures used in Pressure Cooking, foods are cooked very fast. Generally foods cooked in a pressure cooker will take 1/3 of the normal cooking time.
Nutritional Value: loss of nutrients is reduced to a minimum from the short cooking times.
Convenience: by using a pressure cooker to cook a complete meal or several foods at once, fewer saucepans are needed saving space in the cupboard and time washing up.
Economy: fuel is saved, as cooking times are so quick and only one heating area is used.
Versatility: delicious recipes can be cooked: from more traditional stocks, soups, casseroles, pasta, rice, cereals, pulses, fish, and vegetables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prestige Hi Dome 5 Sep 2009
I have used pressure cookers for over 40 years. I have had various makes and various types of Prestige Pressure cookers. but I think the Prestige 6 ltr Hi Dome is the best of all. It is so versatile It can be used for batch cooking and for families. It can also be used for small amounts. It is easy to use and easy to clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for soups and stews 13 April 2009
This is great for cooking soups, stew or ham joints quickly. I bought this one for my daughter because the one I have had for 20 years is still going strong.

This is my second pressure cooker in thirty five years. Quality item. Only reason I had to buy a new one is because my daughter borrowed my one and I haven't seen it since. Great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prestige Hi Dome Pressure Cooker 28 May 2009
Having ' borrowed ' my mum's old pressure cooker for years I thought it was time to give it back!! I read all the options and this one seemed the best one for a family.
I can't recommend it enough, big enough to do a huge gammon steak, yet quick and easy when making my veggie daughter her soups.
It's easy to use, easy to clean. It's a solid all rounder I couldn't do without.
My mum is now after a smaller model!!

4.0 out of 5 stars steamed up 11 Dec 2010
By penfold
this is clearly still made to a high standard despite other reviews, in engineering terms it is well made and as functional as my 30 year old 4ltr model. It differs only in small ways and is essentially the same product working in the same way. I would recommend this product to anyone wanting a no frills cooker this is not a kitchen gadget, it's a tool of unlimited versatality

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 16 July 2009
I chose a Prestige Hi Dome as I have had 40 years of fairly constant use from my old one, however, trying out my new one with a quick meal of mince, the weights did not settle and it did not reach pressure, after 40 years I do know how to use a pressure cooker. I would like to return it but since I have used it would you take it back?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab pressure cooker! 23 Aug 2011
Bought to replace my old worn out Prestige pressure cooker - this one is great as very little steam escapes so it's very efficient. Definitely the best way to cook with increasing fuel prices! Very pleased!
