    Amazon Verified Purchase
This knife was purchased to replace one that was our longest lasting kitchen gadget (28 years!). It is a different design - no handle - more of a light sabre, which for some people may be difficult to hold. You have to press and hold a button top and bottom to activate it, let go either and it will stop. These buttons would be better if they were textured or rubberised - they are quite shiny plastic and a little slippery. There is a rubber sucker on the cord which is very useful to attach to a worktop to keep the cord out of the way - very useful. The knife feels sharper than my old knife but the blades are perhaps a fraction shorter but I've used on pork, chicken and beef with no problems. Will wash in sink not dishwasher as I think this will improve longevity. Feels a better quality product than some; I recommend it.

I was looking for a replacement for my conventional electric carving knife that had served me well over the years and was taken by the unusual design of this knife - wish I hadn't been.... The shape is supposed to mould to your hand but I find it really awkward and uncomfortable to use (as does my husband) and I got cramp in my hand carving up the Christmas turkey. On a less important point the cable is quite rigid and doesn't fold away neatly for storage. If you're looking to buy an electric knife I don't recommend that you buy this one!

Awkward to use 18 Jan 2012
My Kenwood knife was easy to handle but conked out after 15 months. The Prestige knife has thinner blades (a good thing really) but is really awkward to use. The weight of the knife (the motor) is at the back of the handle and you have to tightly grip the thing quite well forward in order to squeeze up the lower safety switch and at the same time press the action button on top at the front. The shape of the appliance seems opposite to what it intuitively should be. This is nowhere near as comfortable as the Kenwood and makes control of the cut more difficult. However, the thin blades give a good fine texture to the cut. It's just more difficult to get regular thin slices of bread with it.
