This special boxed set contains all five series of the BAFTA award-winning PRESS GANG, originally shown on ITV in between 1989 and 1993. Starring Dexter Fletcher and Julia Sawalha, PRESS GANG was written by Steven Moffat (COUPLING and the new DOCTOR WHO) and is generally acknowledged to be one of the best series ever written for television.

I loved this show when I was a teenager! Life seemed so exciting in the Junior Gazette office! I idolised Linda Day (which now seems quite worrying as she was really mean!) and loved her relationship with Spike. I especially loved Colin and had a soft spot for Kenny too.
I used to be obsessed with this show if I'm honest, I'd tape it and watch it over and over again. But those video tapes are long gone and all I was left with were distant memories, until I received this amazing box set for my 32nd birthday last year - hurrah!
I spent a wonderful few days watching every episode, and yes some are better than others but Steven Moffat's script still sparkles with wit and intelligence. Everything about this series is of the highest quality, from the writing to the acting and directing.
I absolutely loved hearing the commentary from Steven Moffat and Julia Sawalha, it is really hilarious the way Julia remembers very little apart from kissing scenes with Dexter Fletcher! Steven Moffat however remembers everything and it is fascinating for a fan such as myself to hear so many little anicdotes about the making of the show.
If you were a fan of this show you must buy this or get somebody to buy it for you, you will LOVE it!

I remember watching this the first time round, when I had an unhealthy obsession with Dexter Fletcher.

Watching it now it hasn't dated - apart from the type writers,'mobile phones', and clothes - it's a cleverly written and funny show. There's a few things I didn't get as a kid and it's good to look back on it now as an adult.

Over 15 years on and I'm still laughing out loud at Lynda's acidic retorts and Colin's antics.

I recommend it to anyone who remembers it the first time round and anyone who loves clever kids tv.

After buying this I watched all five series in a week. Goes from hilariously funny to incredibly touching in seconds. Buy it, you won't regret it.

It makes me feel a bit ancient, finding that Series One was broadcast 20 years ago! I was very wary about revisiting this series, but I shouldn't have worried - it is as good as I remembered.

I bought this because, for some reason, I suddenly recalled the episode where Kenny keeps getting a wrong number. That did it; I had to watch it again!

The cast are what makes it sing, and I am surprised how many of the regular characters immediately sprang back into my mind and became just as familiar and much-loved as they did way back when.

Only 4 stars, though, as the later series didn't quite match the excellence of the first two. Mind you, it is still good, but I feel that Kenny was an important loss. He was the heart of the paper, just as Lynda was the boss, Sarah the conscience and Colin the Macchiavelli.

My daughter and I have really enjoyed watching these together, even though so many things have moved on the storylines don't seem to have dated and it still manages to be funny, moving and exciting. It is worth introducing to a new generation!

I remember watching this the first time round when I was a kid and loving it. The writing is still strong and the storylines are interesting. Though of course the chunky mobile phones and typewriters dates it a lot.

The audio commentaries are a bit disappointing - Stephen Moffat the writer has some nice anecdotes and obviously trying to be interesting. But Julia Sawalha was very boring and kept saying "I don't remember what happened" and I got the impression she had blocked out the entire series from her memory.

Even after 20 years this show still stands tall as one of the most consistent and masterfully written t.v shows of all time. Not bad for a 'children's ' show.

If you enjoyed this first time around, you'll like it even more now as you'll not have to wait a whole week for the next 30 minute episode! Yes, it looks a little dated but the writing wins through and makes it great to watch; I was amazed at how much I remembered including the old Central ident!

There are not a huge number of extras but what is there is interesting enough. The gag reel could have been edited in a far better manner and its clear that Julia has wiped much of her memories of that time from her mind but for a complete collection of series it meets the need well. This is quality childrens TV at its best. As with everything in life, you get what you pay for. With original production costs of £2million, you can see why!

The question is now, will a reunion episode be made or will Mr Moffat be far to busy with Dr Who?
