Product Description

The South of France is producing some of the country's "most interesting terroir driven wine" (The Independent). Le XV, best known by its deserved nickname 'King of the Big Reds', owes its intensity to old vine Grenache, sourced from some of France's oldest vineyards. It also benefits from the painstaking care of Mark Hoddy, whose draconian selection process sees him pick out every vine (some over 100 years old) and oversee every stage of the winemaking. This fastidious method takes time, but you can taste the fruits in every delicious, lip staining glass!Richly textured, with layers of bramble fruit kept smooth by warming alcohol and soft, ripe tannins, this is a red to enjoy with roast lamb, peppered steak or wild boar sausages.

My friend was given a bottle of this wine and I had a glass of it. It fitted the description perfectly...inky black and full of fruit. Imagine my surprise when I got a case of the same wine...same vintage ....to find it was more like one of those 3 for £10 filling station wines. I opened a second bottle to see if it was just a one off but this one was the same.. Pale in colour and relatively cheap tasting. Not what I expected given my previous experience of this wine. Never again.
